Default Koss UR40 Mod

I'm the lucky owner of a pair of Koss UR40 headphones, and they are great, especially for their sound (a bit too much base for some maybe, but i like base!). Unfortunately, these things leak sound like there's no tomorrow, you'd think it doubled as a portable speaker sometimes...
So,I decided to try and do something about that, and the result is a much more closed pair of headphones without the sound quality suffering (IMO). This tutorial also includes a "kramer mod"(?).

First you need to use a flat screwdriver or something similar to loosen the pads all around, they're stuck between the cans and the plastic disc-thingy in front of the speaker. One you loosen it you can easily drag it off. A alternative (i now know) is to unscrew the three screws without removing the pads, see further down to see placement.

Unscrew the screws and SAVE THEM
Lift the thing off.

Kramer mod steps: Not necessary to isolate the phones.

Remove the speaker gently by pushing back the brackets

There are three long holes in the speakercasing (unfortunately the pic got blurred ), push the little bracket thing in them GENTLY (or you can ruin the membran) to remove the membrane protector.

Make some holes in the protectors, to let air through easier. Put them back on

Sound isolating mod:

Now time for the sound isolation. Find the foam pads that were inside the headphones, and simply add some duct tape on the part that is going against the back "wall"/grill of the can, i used 2-3 layers.

Now it's time to put it all back together, should be pretty self-explainatory. When it comes to putting the pads back on/screwing in the screws, remember to put the pads on the right way and before you screw in the screws. I put on the pads, then screwed in the top screw (the one "alone"), then the last two. A good tip is to stretch the pads on the back so they are screwed in place, otherwise they might get pretty loose... I did that with all three screws on both cans and the pads are like they should be

End result:

/those who have seen logitec's mx518 computer mice knows why i didnt clear out the bumps in the duct tape

Great, hope it didn't cramp the soundstage too much.
