Sounds good. I threw her album on my wishlist.

Heavenly - Carpe Diem - 2009

Pretty bombastic metal album. Even have some touches reminiscent of Queen in here. There's still no real hooks on the first couple of listens though, and the cover's fairly cheeze. (Soooo sexy).

Yargos - Magical Karma - 2012

Some very weird choices on here. Hopefully I can get past them because there are some great moments as well. First time I've ever seen the highlighted artists printed on the lyric book vs. a sticker on the outside.

Harem Scarem - Mood Swings (1) - 1993

Can always listen to this. A stunning album, and they're about to release a re-recording of it. In this case I really don't get it, as this was THE Harem Scarem album that started it all for a lot of people.

I'd say I wish they'd get to the new material instead but they've never come close to repeating this. Voice Of Reason and Overload are a distant 2nd and 3rd.

Listening to Dream Theater's NEW ALBUM via their web site! OMG, IMO they never sounded so prog, and I love it! So far, this is the best I've heard from them in a long time.

Just setup subsonic, so looking at the collection from a different perspective. (If anyone has some suggestions on a better streamer let me know, it works, but the UI is pretty clunky).

The Romantics - Strictly Personal - 1981

My fave of The Romantics, the hardest of the bunch. I'm not sure if it was the pink jackets or what that held this back, but I like it more than the obvious 1st album and In Heat. Why'd You Leave Me is a standout.

Megan McCauley - Better Than Blood - 2007

Not bad, was super cheap, pretty rocking, although a little too much distorted/vocal efx.

Glenmore - For The Sake Of Truth - 1994

A from the metal bin in Japan random pick, turned out to be an awesome disc, and even though Jürgen Volk went on to Rawhead Rexx, it just wasn't the same.

House Of Shakira - Live At Firefest 2005 - 2006

Pretty good show, although short @ 63 minutes. They cover most of their best material from Lint and III. Unfortunately we never got album #2 On The Verge in the states.

Sonata Artica - Live In Finland - 2012

Great video when it actually lands on something for awhile. I read Nightwish had 17 cameras on their new video about to be released, and I'm sure this was similar. There's a fair amount of overlap with For The Sake Of Revenge, and that one's much easier to watch (but no blu-ray).

Dream Theater - Dream Theater - 2013 - Standard Edition

I've jammed this four times since release date, and I like it, but it does sound somewhat weird, JLB sounds more like he did on Elements Of Persuasion, and on the prog/metal split I'd like more metal and less prog. I wonder if this one will inspire a Japanese band score, as they gave up on them after Systematic Chaos.

Middle tier deluxe edition only offers a 5.1 mix above and beyond, and I'm certainly not dropping $100 on the uber-deluxe one.

I'd be curious if the hdtracks versions have more dynamic range, as this one's still pretty compressed with an overall DR score of 6. And all songs peaking over the top.

Trying to get myself in a good place mentally before yet another day of work....

Review by Jonathan Widran [-]

It's so interesting how a popular solo pianist known for impressionistic piano spends much of his liner notes detailing the inspirations of jazz giants like John Coltrane and rockers like the Doors and Procol Harum (a moody cover of that band's "Too Much Between Us" is a bonus on this edition). The improvisational midsection of the opening track, "Colors/Dance," was created via inspiration from "Light My Fire" and "My Favorite Things." The new enhanced edition also includes sheet music to Winston's original song "Longing/Love."

For those new to the Winston experience, Autumn was Winston's 1980 breakthrough album that earned him international notoriety and enabled him to continue recording and performing for audiences. Chiefly influenced by the Doors' first album in 1967, Autumn features the captivating ten-minute-plus opening track "Colors/Dance," which begins as a multifaceted musical impression of the yellow cottonwoods of Miles City and Billings, MT, where the pianist grew up. The other thematically based tracks include "Woods," "Road," "Moon," "Sea," and "Stars." The album has sold over half a million units.

Alyson Avenue - Changes - 2011

Been trying to backtrack to these guys since the Nightwish change (#1, very interested in the new Flor Jansen's effort), and this was the first cheap one. I'm just not feeling Arabella, and even though the album on paper is the same DR score as the DT release, this one distorts a *lot* where it shouldn't in contrast.

Kix - Live In Baltimore - 2012

Not sure how many of these were made, it seemed to be released and then shortly after disappeared and then prices went nuts. Amazon got a couple in and there was a short respite.

Like the Pretty Maids set, these guys have been around forever and this is the first official video released, although they went the 1 cd route with a few tunes chopped, instead of the 2.

They have a special place in my heart, having seen them on the Midnight Dynamite tour, but some of the stage banter seems stuck in 1981.

Overall a great set, some songs from all the Atlantic releases. There's some weird video artifacts (like a bad upscaler or something) that make it slightly hard to watch, but if you're a Kix fan already, this is a must buy.

Metal Church - Dynamo - 2007 (1991)

Didn't even know this existed until a couple of weeks ago when I saw these guys are releasing a new cd, Generation Nothing, in a couple of weeks (still with Ronnie Munroe, boooooo).

I missed these guys on tour back in the day, so I was *psyched* to see this. I was with them from the beginning with David Wayne, but the three Mike Howe era discs are standouts in the genre. The biggest disappointments here are, too short, too early (No Hanging In The Balance Material) and some sound/video issues.

But again, this is the best thing out there, and a very welcome surprise.

Just got this in the mail and I have to say I'm glad this is finally out after 11 years. The original mixes just didn't do the songs justice.

Looking forward to that one too.

Gamma Ray - Heading For The East - 2003 (1990)

Early days of Gamma Ray in Japan, despite it's limitations is still a good time.

Starship - Loveless Fascination - 2013

Pretty enjoyable disc. Mickey for the most part sounds great, I guess Jeff Pilson supposedly wrote most of this, it's more organic sounding than the other other Starship releases.
