Thornley - Tiny Pictures - 2009



I'd missed The Big Wreck and stumbled upon the 2004 Thornley CD Come Again, which was an absolute simple, hooky, heavy blast. So I'd been waiting to get this one for 3 years or so, being only released in Canada(?). This isn't Come Again II, as there's less wall of sound, and more subtlety (not necessarily a good thing). I think it will grow on me though. I guess they've reverted back to The Big Wreck name though for the last release.

Dokken - Broken Bones - 2012 - Regular Edition



Rumored to be the last Dokken disc. This one is a pretty good effort. They've written songs around, and covered up Don, so there's nothing too strenuous to expose his froggy nature at this point, although a few croaks make it through. Otherwise, all the pieces fit, very Lynchian guitar work, great vocal arrangements, good production. Gave up on the deluxe version because it's just a DVD with making of material supposedly.

Stryper - The Covering - 2011



Don't really buy cover albums, but it was a near giveaway, and always dug Michael Sweet. What sets this apart is the song selection, all hard rock/metal classics, surprisingly including Ozzy & Sabbath tracks, and the nearly on the nose performances. No reinterpretations here. Still wish they'd be working on original material instead.

First LD I checked out after it finished the initial smoke test. Really good concert of these guys back in their prime time days. Everyone's in fine form, and look like they're having a blast.

Black Country Communion - Afterglow - 2012



The 3rd effort from these guys, and this seems to be the best of the bunch. It won't really break my heart if Glenn goes back solo, and I have a new appreciation for Joe Bonamassa after the 3 album run (and seeing a live solo concert). I went for the cheap domestic non-dvd version.

Eclipse - Bleed And Scream - 2012



Great follow up to 2008's Are you ready to rock. A lot of positive buzz on this one, and it's not unfounded. Hope they don't take 4 years to put out another one, but I know there's side projects going on at the same time.
