Creation's End - A New Beginning - 2010
![]() Pretty good prog metal stuff fronted by Mike DiMeo (Riot, Masterplan). This one is really growing on me. Lots of crunchy goodness, and noodling semi-pointlessly, just how I like it. They're supposedly working on something for 2013 and I'm there.

Richie Kotzen - 24 hours - 2010
![]() Another knockout cd from Richie. He was a perfect replacement for Paul Gilbert in Mr. Big, because both of them can rip your face off, our lay back and do just what the song needs. One of the most consistent artists (for me) out there. I guess he's putting these out himself now, so the packaging is disappointing. No lyrics, just a two panel piece of paper with some credits basically.

Gary Moore - Bad For You Baby - 2008
![]() The last studio recording from Gary Moore. I forget if it was BB or Albert King who said something like, he's so good, but he just needs to slow down. There's not much of that here. It's a flat out modern blues shredfest. Even one of the slow songs he's restrained until the very end and then just pops off on the exit. A fitting statement album of what he was all about on the blues front.

Based on your postings in this thread, it seems you already do (Opeth, that is).

Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime - 1988
![]() Got some Japanese band scores that came in, so I'm revisiting some classics. A knockout album that built the foundation for Empire's huge success. I was surprised how weird this sounded to me compared to the modern stuff I've been listening to. Very bright in the middle, and not much bass, had to tweak seriously to get it to sound good, but it's ripped from the original 1988 version. Sounds like the remasters are horrid, so this is probably as good as it gets. It's sad to listen to this and see what they were capable of, and what they have denigrated into today. Geoff Tate's got an album that's coming out in November, and unless it's 12 out of 10 stars I'm just not interested, after all the shit he's (allegedly) pulled.

Stevie Ray Vaughan - In Step - 1989
![]() Last studio work from Stevie (without Jimmy), and it seemed to be aurally the same as the Queensryche album, benefiting from the same sonic tweaks. Too short, as were all his discs, but there's some great tones on here, and he seems relaxed and in control. Never went for the 1999 version with the extra tracks (live ones), as I'm always worried about people "fixing" what isn't broke.

Lionsheart - Lionsheart - 1992
![]() Steve Grimmett's (Grim Reaper) first outing after the underrated Onslaught album he was on. Loved this album when it first came out, and it still holds up today. This was the kind of stuff that just disappeared from the states for a long time, and was only available from Europe or Japan. There's guitars all over this thing, but still within the bounds of songs and not pointless jamming. A very underrated band.
