Huntress - Spell Eater - 2012



Old school metal in the vein of Chastain (one of my all time favorite bands) and Benedictum. Jill Janus obviously has some great pipes, but too often ventures into cookie monsterette vocal land. If these guys can tone that down and add a slight touch of melody/harmony, they'd be incredible. Definitely will keep an eye out for their 2nd effort.

Nice, but I guess that's also because I like the Jay part of it.

But listening to the rest of the album over at soundcloud I think you just posted the best track of it.. I don't feel the mix with radiohead is always as fitting.

Hydrogyn - Judgement - 2010



This is the 2nd album after these guys made a big splash with Bombshell. Deadly Passions was a step backward. I was hoping with Michael Wagener back on board he'd straighten them out, but this album's even worse than Deadly Passions. There's an explanation of the recording process at the end, and it seems like these songs were written with a bunch of different people and included stuff from 10 years ago, ending up all over the map. Julie is still kicking ass, but it's a tough slog. Maybe Private Sessions will finally be the one where they get their crap together.

Versaemerge - Fixed At Zero - 2010



This is lighter fare than I normally listen to, but I think it showed up as an amazon recommendation. I thought the clips sounded good, but it was misleading. It could have been a seriously average effort, but the vocal performances/arrangements & production make this thing a knock out. They have something coming out later this year, so I hope they leaned a little bit harder on the aggression button, but even if they don't I'm still interested in it if it's anywhere as well crafted as this.
