Aborted - Strychnine.213 (2008)

Quote:
Aborted, formed in 1995, is a Belgian death metal band. Founded by vocalist Sven de Caluwé, Aborted released a demo tape and eventually were signed to Uxicon Records. Since then the band has released three splits (on Soulreaper Records, Bones Brigade, and Listenable Records, respectively), five full albums, an EP, and a DVD. Aborted are currently signed to Century Media.

Aborted have a dedicated fanbase organized under the collective name of the Aborted Army, who attend Aborted shows dressed in blood splattered surgical gear, inspired by the cover of the album Goremageddon: The Saw and the Carnage Done, which included a demented surgeon.

Strychnine.213 is the sixth studio album by the Belgian death metal band Aborted, released on June 24, 2008 through Century Media Records. The sample from the song "A Murmur in Decrepit Wits" is from a 1980s interview with Charles Manson.
Saw them live on Wednesday (together with Black Dahlia Murder) and bought a tshirt.

Joseph Ira Dassin (November 5, 1938 – August 20, 1980), more commonly known as Joe Dassin, was an American/French singer-songwriter. Joe was born in New York City to American film noir director Jules Dassin and Béatrice Launer, a Hungarian virtuoso violinist. He began his childhood first in New York City and Los Angeles. However, after his father became a victim of McCarthyism, he and his family moved from place to place across Europe.
After studying at the International School of Geneva and the Institut Le Rosey in Switzerland, Dassin moved back to the United States to go to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. After college, he moved back to France where, while working at a radio station, a record label convinced him to begin to record his songs.
By the early 1970s, Dassin's songs were on the top of the charts in France and he had become very well known. He was also a talented polyglot, recording songs in German, Russian, Spanish, Italian and Greek, as well as French and English.
Dassin married Maryse (real first name: Yvette) Massiéra on January 18th, 1966, in Paris. Their son, Joshua, was born two and a half months before term, September 12th, 1973, and died 5 days after. Devastated, Joe and Maryse split, but weren't really divorced until 1977.
January 14th, 1978, Joe married Christine Delvaux in Colignac (Var). They had two sons, Jonathan (born Sept.14th, 1978) and Julien (March 22nd, 1980). Christine died in December 1995.
Joe Dassin died of a heart attack during a vacation to Tahiti on August 20, 1980. He is interred in the Beth Olen Mausoleum section of Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Hollywood, California.

Under the Pink is the second solo album by singer-songwriter Tori Amos. Upon its release in January 1994, the album peaked at US # 12 and on the back of the hit single "Cornflake Girl", the album debuted at UK # 1, her highest-charting UK album debut to date. This album was on Blender magazine's list of 500 CDs You Must Own.[1]
The album represents a more acoustic piano-based sound, and most of the final third of the album is devoted to a classical-inspired suite of piano songs, including the sweeping nine-and-a-half minute epic "Yes, Anastasia". Amos used a prepared upright piano for the studio recording of "Bells for Her", which was also played on a prepared piano for the second half of the tour. It was voted among the greatest albums of the 1990s by Rolling Stone magazine some years later.
Amos performed the "Under the Pink" tour from February through November 1994, encompassing many of the same stops as on the previous world tour. A limited edition release of the album commemorating the Australian tour included a second disc entitled More Pink, a collection of rare B-Sides like "Little Drummer Boy" and a cover version of Joni Mitchell's "A Case of You", was issued in November 1994. During this period, she also contributed the song "Butterfly" to the soundtrack for the 1994 movie Higher Learning, as well as a cover of the R.E.M song "Losing My Religion".
The album was recorded in Taos, New Mexico in a hacienda. The album artwork features several Native American and New Mexican references in the photography.
The album is also notable as the last Amos album to feature the production of Eric Rosse as they split that year.
To date, Under the Pink remains her highest-charting album in the UK and has sold more than two million copies worldwide.

Slide It In is the seventh studio album by British hard rock band Whitesnake, released in 1984. It was the first Whitesnake album to be released in the United States, but was remixed for the release there. Because of this, two different editions of the album exist, each with its own unique qualities. In 1988 the album re-entered the charts due to the success of 1987(Whitesnake in America), peaking at #99.

[edit] Album versions

The European and Canadian edition of the album contains the original mix. This mix features a stronger presence of keyboards by Jon Lord, and the bass is more noticeable.
The U.S. mix lowers the keyboards and bass in the mix, and is more orientated around the guitars and drums. The U.S. version features some different guitar solos to the European/Canadian edition, with the addition of John Sykes as a third guitarist layered on top of the original guitar parts recorded by Mel Galley and Micky Moody.
There are also other, more subtle differences in the mix. For instance, on the track Gambler on the UK version, Coverdale's voice echoes after every line he sings - this does not happen in the US mix.
In general, the fan consensus is that the U.S. edition sounds more slickly produced and radio-friendly for the American marketplace, whereas the original shows the band's classic rock roots.[citation needed] Vocalist and band-leader David Coverdale would take the polished production of Slide It In to an even higher level on Whitesnake's follow-up album.
In 2009, the album was re-issued as a 2-disc digipack to comemorate its 25th anniversary. The first disc, a CD contain both the original European and U.S. mixes of the album and a DVD containing promo videos and live performances.

On the deliriously satisfying In Rainbows, Radiohead returns to a more straight-ahead (though subdued) rock sound. Much hubbub has been made about this record's innovative release. Radiohead allowed fans to pay what they wished to download fairly low-resolution tracks from the band's own website. Like so many innovations, it already seems funny both that it was such big news and that someone else of similar stature hadn't done it sooner. Some pundits were appalled that it took awhile to download the tracks if you tried to do it at the same time as thousands of other people, while others decried that the group was trying to kill the music industry (or save it). Little of the press seemed to focus on the record itself, which actually made sense because it was so entertaining and inviting, the most low-key album Radiohead has made to date. There's even a very straight-forward, simple, silly little love song, "House of Cards." It might be a bit lethargic, but the simple instrumentation of electric guitars, bass, and drums is lovely as heck. A handful of these tunes enchanted fans for years before finally being committed to computer "tape." This is particularly fitting as In Rainbows is the group's most "band"-sounding album since OK Computer. This is not a record that hits you over the head with how far this group is pushing the envelope; it's simply a phenomenal, well-crafted, and exciting album. As soon as it's done, you're playing it again. --Mike McGonigal

Kind of Blue is a studio album by American jazz musician Miles Davis, released August 17, 1959 on Columbia Records. The recording sessions for the album took place at Columbia's 30th Street Studio in New York City on March 2 and April 22, 1959. The sessions featured Davis's ensemble sextet, which included pianists Bill Evans and Wynton Kelly, drummer Jimmy Cobb, bassist Paul Chambers, and saxophonists John Coltrane and Julian "Cannonball" Adderley. Production was handled entirely by Teo Macero and Irving Townsend. After the inclusion of Bill Evans into his sextet, Davis followed up on the modal experimentations of Milestones (1958) and the '58 Sessions (1958) by basing the album entirely on modality, in contrast to his earlier work with the hard bop style of jazz.
Though precise figures have been disputed, Kind of Blue has been cited by many music writers not only as Davis's best-selling album, but as the best-selling jazz record of all time. On October 7, 2008, it was certified quadruple platinum in sales by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). It has been regarded by many critics as the greatest jazz album of all time and Davis's masterpiece, and it has been ranked at or near the top of several "best album" lists in disparate genres. The album's influence on music, including jazz, rock and classical music, has led music writers to acknowledge it as one of the most influential albums of all time. In 2002, it was one of fifty recordings chosen that year by the Library of Congress to be added to the National Recording Registry. In 2003, the album was ranked number 12 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. In 2008, a box set release of Kind of Blue was issued by Legacy Records in commemoration of its fiftieth anniversary.

Darkest Days is the third album released on Columbia Records by industrial rock band Stabbing Westward. The album was recorded in L.A. in 1997 and released in April 1998. The album failed to achieve the same level of success as Wither Blister Burn & Peel. The band was dropped from Columbia Records following this release. The track "Save Yourself" reached number 20 on the U.S. Modern Rock chart and remains an alternative rock staple.
Darkest Days is a concept album made up of 4 acts, each portraying a different emotional phase gone through after a break-up. The first act (Tracks 1-4) is about sabotaging the relationship. The second act (Tracks 5-9) is about lust, hope, and longing. The third act (Tracks 10-12) is about hitting rock bottom after it's all over. The fourth act (13-16) is about recovery and self-respect.
