How to tell the difference between real and fake Sennheiser CX300/500

Okay, so i found someone that bought them before from this seller, and he verifies there is a number on the ear phone like the one in the picture below, but can someone actually verify that the picture?

For £30 you could get genuine CX300 in a brick&mortar store. That way you can be sure they're not fake (contrary to buying from eBay).

I got my cx300 directly from amazon, so I think they are real sennheissers.

OK, my 100% genuine CX300's (bought in Europe nearly 2 years ago) have

- a number "1" on the right ear phone (for the right ear)
- a number "2" on the left ear phone (for the left ear)

Well, i bough my CX300's from Amazon direct and they have numbers on them, but there kinda f'ed so i need new ones. Ill post a pic soon of whats happend to them.

I've got cx300s from ebay which are definately genuine - my dumbass brother paid £10 more and got them from HMV. They're identical lol

Seller was called stave84, had great feedback too

PS: no numbers on the barrel on either pair

Well, it could be that number thing is something new, mine are very old. Either way it's not important, I don't even use them anymore

I got mine from amazon too, but they got messed up. first the cable got sticky (I used to use them under my t-shirt so sweat might be to blame). then the sound from one earphone got seriously muffled. I checked everything but they're KIA. I'm not so sure about getting another set again. it lasted less than a year.

hes selling cx300's for about 10$ + $10 shipping. seems too good to be true, but then again also has over 1200 positive feedback...of course that could mean 1200 people who can't tell the difference between real or fake

someone in this thread also mentioned ebay user 'stave84' selling authentic cx300's but upon another forum, someone reported he was actually selling fake ones. gah!

i'd rather not purchase locally as they go for about 89$ in stores around here.

My dad and I both have the CX300 and we don't know which one is the fake because they look very different. They both have superior and equal sound quality which is kind of weird. Here are the pics of mine(a):

And if one of them is fake, then it has really good sound quality and I might even just buy a fake one because you can't hear a difference!!!

I have never seen a cx300 w/gold 3.5mm plug, but that doesn't mean they've never made one. fwiw, mine is silver and looks a lot like yours.

Mine are silver and look a lot like yours as well, except the letter 'L' is the correct way around on mine

Your dad's ear pieces look real, but your plug looks real. If you look at dfkt vs mine, you can see my fakes(which I got a refund) compared to the real ones.
