I had the same result - currently my Z5 is cycling between restarting and displaying the update in progress screen. What to do next? I have no idea, apart from buying a K3 and never upgrading the firmware.

Does anyone else tried to talk with samsung support to solve this problem? For me, every time I've written, I've received answers without any link with the problem

Hey guys!

according to the website given below it's possible to resurrect any "dead" sigmatel based player. as you may know Z5 sports SigmaTEL SMTP 3660 chip. Now if any one with a working player would be so kind to extract their firmware (no harm will be done to the layer ;-)) we'll all be able to unbrick our players. yes, mine is bricked again. Since there is also a Z5F with an fm radio, two versions of the firmware are required. Please, please, please have a look here.
