oh when you do reformat it is best to have seperate partitions for the OS drive and your 'stuff drives'.

I used to do the same, but after storage space got insanely cheap i find little reason to do it anymore. I also find that hard drives get bad sectors and fragment more when its chopped into partitions, no idea why but it has happened enough to make me stop.

Having 5TB of external storage makes it kinda pointless too lol.

Hehe unless you can fill it, it isn't that useful and I'm working on that lol. 955gb of movies/tv shows, 567gb of music/software/misc backups, and i have my music backed up on 3 different hard drives just in case hehe. So im not even using all of my space quite.

oh new desktop on laptop, its made of win lol.

Nothing to show on my side , Win XP Pro, Windows 7 Ultimate are all FAT FREE and look as plain as plain gets. Even if I run over the heavyweight hardware(Fallout 3 has to run silky smooth on a 30" native rez).

Reinstalling any OS takes me up to 5 minutes, it is called IMAGES. And I also run virtual OS'es. SO viruses,spywares and malwares are will be in tough luck.

With the cost of an external hard drive there is no reason to get caught pants down and lose data of value.


Polish people here, well in this case I am not alone.

It takes me 6-10 hours to get my system back and running after a reformat. I gotta install alot of stuff for my game devlopment and graphics. it also takes me a long time for the server to workstation conversion process. and installing and booting server 2008 R1 for the first time takes about an hour. rebooting this thing is hell every time. it takes much much longer to reboot a server OS since server OSes are not meant to be rebooted. I can live with that though. runs smoother then my sisters and mom's vista.

I don't wanna get on windows 7 since they put more backdoor crap for the bad companies and alot of other media overhead crap. I also don't like the fact they bundled codecs in at all. I wanna be able to choose my own codecs. the codecs they have may be fine for casual users, however anyone working with videos hate that since they conflict with klite or CCCP or any of the other bundles when it comes to making video. premiere gave me tons of flac (pun intended) about it. LOLz. There is ways to strip the codecs off but it's kinda risky since premiere is so damned stubborn about them. adobe needs shot seriously. I can never git the damn thing to encode the best way I alwways gotta mess with some kinda BS. LOL.

and yes even server OSes go stale after so long. Mine is due for a reformat. even on first boot is slow as hell with not much running. just gotta wait a lil longer till i get my stuff together and reorganized. I have had this installed since july and its kinda gotten bad.
