To me the only thing that qualifies as fast food is the Japanese Wendys thing, and Japan always has a weird take on western food (You should see some of the stuff they put on pizzas).

$25k for an ice cream? Clearly I'm in the wrong business!

My favorite burger runs 5.99 at the local gas station. Its a double quarter pounder, bacon, cheese(I choose swiss) mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, onion(can have them saute' with the mushrooms), and fry sauce on a perfectly toasted bun. They're big for double quarters though, I usually have to physically smash them down to get my mouth on it.

Fast food for quite some time has been ridiculously expensive--when you see a family of 4 paying $20+ at the fast-food restaurants, something is quite broken.

More like $50+ for a family of 4. Aside from the price, most fast food is extremely unhealthy.

Now, that's a scary thought. You easily could make or pick up good food for home for considerably less. Lobster, at that price.

Not in NYC. A dinner at a cheap restaurant or diner is about $50 or so when 4 of us go out to eat once in awhile. The more "expensive" establishments START at maybe $100,...at the low end. I'll be damned if I've ever been to one of those places,...and my wife is the same. A waste of $$$.

I've done the math on it, for the price I can go to wendy's and get a combo meal then I could buy the best beef cuts at the market(no kobi beef there. ) and cook it myself and still save money.

Now I pack my own lunch, I generally bring more food than I can eat and only spend $2-3 a day. Its all premium food too.

Still, $5 for a cronut is outrageous even for NYC. And I can't believe people are scalping them for $8-20 apiece!

The only reason people, businesses, restaurants are getting by charging outlandish prices is that there are other people stupid enough to pay those prices. Or as I was always taught, people who have "more dollars than sense".

Most places in NYC are actually stuck charging exorbitant prices for food due to the astronomical cost of overhead here. I'm not justifying a $5 (disgusting) cronut, or even a $15 hamburger, but prices in my local are this high because of the location. No real logical reason,...only because it's NYC. The same is for California, in certain areas. There are similar situations all over,...but some cities are worse than others. I could live wonderfully on half my salary in quite a few other states,...here in NYC I couldn't afford a cardboard box under a free park bench. Go figure,... :-/

Quality restaurant food in California (specifically in San Francisco) is a lark compared to the pricing of comparable restaurants in NYC. A mecca for good food in that sense. Altho, still very expensive oftentimes.

Yeah, the selection of great restaurants in NYC is pretty vast,...but there's a ton of overpriced shiit food as well. I've found some really solid diners with great food & low prices though. A full meal is usually taken home in a doggie bag, since they give you so much. It's a miracle if any of us finish. The price ranges from $8-$20 per person, depending on the choice. Great stuff!!!

Isn't fast food supposed to be _fast_? I guarantee that if you order a $100 philly cheesesteak at Barclay Prime in Philadelphia, you're not getting it within 30 minutes. This is just typically cheap food taken to extremes. Put gold leaf on a toasted bagel with cream cheese and charge $1000 for it. Big f***ing deal.
