Dookie, you will need a new bootloader, just use the one here in the firmware dumps, I've used it loads of times and it's fine...

When people say hold it for 15s, that isnt for Recovery mode.. that is to force a shutdown
To get into recovery, put switch on hold...hold record button.. and then press power

read my original post more carefully pyr0sphere..
I said if he CAN'T go into recovery mode, it's because the player isn't ALL THE WAY OFF, it's only in sleep mode (part of the new Hebrew Firmware).. I'm telling him to hold down the power button for 15 seconds, to insure that before he actually goes into recovery mode, that the player is ACTUALLY off. |

You dont have to use recovery mode if you have a working player, I just suggested it because recovery mode works for everyone and it is a pure recovery enviornment.
Lifter - You must not be following the correct process.

You need to hold the REC button quickly AFTER pressing power. That's what I have to do anyway.

To get the Sansa into recovery mode:
- Power off the unit (full power off) - Slide the hold switch to the lock position, - Hold the "record" button on the side pressed - Plug in the USB port (this has not always worked. Pressing the menu/power button seems to work more effectively, but - is more awkward). |

OK - now we have lift-off..... It seems that you can't get to recovery mode via the sync cable with the new firmware (if it's operational). The only way to get into recovery mode is by using the power button and then connecting to the USB port. Once there a quick reformat and reload and I am back in business with the previous version. While I had not experienced any of the issues that many others have been subjected to - I know that I would have "issues" just as soon as I got on an airplane next week for a business trip. The backstep seems like the best option.

Again, you didn't need to go into recovery mode to do that... But I'm glad you got it figured out.

Yeah - I know but it was the principle of the thing at that point - I was going to get it into Recovery Mode one way or the other....Maybe I have been watching too many episodes of Intervention..

OK - quick follow up... Having reloaded the the current production release firmware, reformatted the player and then a re-sync with Urge through WMP11, I have full album art support (and it's even the right album with the song). Not sure what changed but I am NOT complaining.

I think he wants to know how you get the two files.
First, you download the old firmware installer from Sandisk or wherever. Then you have to extract the firmware from the installer, using a program such as, 7-zip, or winzip, or winrar, or stuffit or... well, you get the point. I'll assume you're using 7-zip, because it's easier for me. To extract the firmware from the installer, just right-click on the installer, go to "7-Zip" > "Open archive". The 7-Zip window should pop up. You, you should see two folders and some other files. One folder is named "SKU_A" and the other, "SKU_E". One is the American firmware, and the other is the European firmware. Drag the one that you need out of the 7-zip window, and onto the desktop. Open the folder you just dragged onto the desktop. You should see two files in there, "BL_SD_boardSupportSD.rom" and "PP5022.mi4". Rename, "BL_SD_boardSupportSD.rom" to "pribootLoader.rom" and "PP5022.mi4" to "firmware.mi4". Put your Sansa in MSC mode (in the Sansa, go to "Settings" > "USB Mode" > "MSC"), and plug it into your PC. Drag those two files (don't drag the whole folder) onto the root of your Sansa's drive. Unplug the Sansa and hope it doesn't start nuclear war... |

Thanks! That was my guess since Urge never tells you what's in an update when it automatically installs - all I saw in the last update was the ability to generate a playlist based on what you have been listening to and what you have been downloading (cool feature) but not much else. Oh, and that the service actually remembers your User name and password so you can automatically log in.
