Default Sennheiser Momentum On-Ear

I've never had any headphones before except a set of Koss buds which don't really count.

These come with 2 cables, (one for iDevices and one regular) and while I'm not keen on the red it was the only option availlable with the black. They come with a 2-year-guarantee plus a 14 day money back option if I find I don't like them.

The packaging is very nice and the 'phones look like they're very well thought out and constructed.

Sound quality I don't know about - I didn't research these at all before buying except a quick review I read on my phone that said they were a lot better than Beats. I'll give them some time to burn in.

Here is a better internet picture of the cans:

They're pretty highly regarded by the Head-Fi crowd, but I haven't heard them.

I guess I can always swap a black cable for the red (but not the bit that goes between the cans).

They sound great from my Clip+ so far.

Well, they come in 7 colours, and as far as I'm aware black is the only colour which has the red wires. Black was the only version in the store otherwise I'd have gone for the Pistacchio option.

But I can replace the cable with a black one, and at least I'll have 2 red ones as spares.

So far I really like the sound - a good amount of bass but not overpowering. Reading this review I agree that the treble seems to be rolled off a bit, not by a huge amount but I might find myself EQing them. http://www.hifiheadphones.co.uk/foru...ne-review.html

But it's apples and oranges to me - I've never had headphones before so I can't really compare them with the iems I use.

The best looking version, IMO, is the original one:

Note that the ear cups are very small, even though they're supposed to be "around the ear". Too small for me.

The sound is quite good for consumer oriented phones; I wasn't expecting audiophile quality at the price I paid.

A bigger concern is that I can't get them comfy for me. About 30 minutes is the most I can take no matter how I position the band or cups.

I've had to spend some time adjusting the cups and the band and they're now pretty comfy. I think my ears are getting used to them. I wouldn't wear them outside though.

They actually sound fantastic to me - playing a few albums last night and this morning, I don't think I've heard my music like this before - except out of some speakers maybe.

I decided I really didn't care for the black with the red wire, so, in a different store I bought the Pistachio. I had the choice of Ivory, Blue or Brown but the green is the best - to my eyes. I paid full retail ie. 170 as opposed to the black where I got a 10% discount. 153. BUT these green ones come with a 5 year guarantee from the store as opposed to the regular 2 year sennheiser guarantee I got with the black ones. And the black version is going back - I'm not made of money.

But they really are nice-sounding phones, I've never had anything like them and hope that they do last 5 years.

Looking very nice! And no reason they shouldn't last 5 years--I still have my 25-year-old Sony on-ear phones (with many pad replacements over the years, including using alternate pads when Sony stopped selling them many years ago), still sounding great . . . .

I think the new ones look so much better. No fingerprints as well,...

I'm not a green sorta guy, but the pistachio color was done very well here, stylishly muted.

Agreed, very classy. They sound pretty good, too. If only the cups were man-sized!

Yes, the green is muted and elegant, and as The DarkSide says - no fingerprints show unlike the black.

The black with the red wires isn't bad-looking...but it's a particular style that will only appeal to some and the red wire does cheapen the look, in my opinion, as though they were copying Beats. Mine go back to the store this afternoon.

I discovered that Sennheiser are offering the 5 year guarantee for these phones bought up until 31st December which I think is a cracking deal (although I'm not sure if it's just in the UK) http://en-uk.sennheiser.com/momentum-on-ear

My next set of headphones will be these,...to go with a new Sony. I wish the volume control wasn't iPod/iPad/iPhone only. At least it will work with the clicker control on most Android devices. Besides, the cable is swappable,....so these will work with anything.

Well green is my favorite color so now I like them.

I have used Sennheisers that are as old as I am so they'll probably last forever.

You get 2 cables - one with the iDevice controls and one plain.

I've found that the central button will pause/play the music on my android devices but the volume buttons don't work.

But if I hold down the centre button it will bring up Google Now and I can say, 'Play Dokken', for example, and it works. But you would need to be a user of Google Play Music, I think.

Visiting the first shop to return the black momentums I found that I would only have got my money back if they were absolutely pristine ie. unopened..

They offered me 90% of my money back - 138 or a gift voucher for the whole 153. I didn't really want to put the money back on my credit card so accepted the voucher and had another look at all their headphones (nothing else in the shop I wanted).

Then I saw these for which they matched the Amazon price of 132, so I have a gift voucher left for 21 and have spent a total of 323 for the Momentums and the AKG 550.

I'm skint until Christmas and won't get a chance to listen to these until Saturday night as I'm travelling today/tomorrow to visit my GFs parents (and trying to pretend I'm as interested in them and their daughter as I am in listening to music with new phones - I'm not).
