Default Problem with 'Phonak Audeo' earphone filters

I recently have this problem with my Phonak Audeo 012 earphones that I feel the sound is louder in my left ear than the other. At first I was worried whether there is a serious problem and I might have to buy a new pair. Luckily I found out that when I changed the filters (I bought a set of 8 gray filters separately from Phonak) the problem was gone. But occasionally, I feel that the sound comes louder in one side. Without the filter, the volume of the sound is the same in both sides. So, I feel that there might be a problem with some of the filters in the set that maybe they can't deliver the sound properly. Is it possible that filters might be damaged? Do filters need cleaning? Any thoughts?
