Default "Transferring" when first connected to PC. What is being transferred?

Both of my Clip Zips go through a 30 Second mode where the display says "Transferring" when I first connect it via USB to the PC. Why and what is being transferred? My old Clip and Fuze never did this; my Fuze+ and e250 do not do this. I'm running the latest firmware via the Sansa Updater on both Zips.

As far as I recall, I don't have that occur with any of my Clips, including Clip Zip--do you have some sort of Autorun taking place? If it makes any difference, my players are set to run in USB MSC mode--are your players set to USB MTP mode, by any chance, and could a media player on your computer (such as Winows Media Player) be doing something in connecting up with your Clips?

I have a feeling it is Windows misbehaving. It seems to love to add or modify desktop.ini files just so that you get data transfers when you don't want them.

I only have my original Fuze by the computer this morning. So I tried connecting it in MSC and MTP mode. In both modes, it came up with the message "Writing" for a short while (nowhere near 30 sec, maybe 10).

Did you transfer the music that's on them via "syncing" or "auto-sync" with Windows Media Player or some other software? If so, when you plug in to your computer, it will scan the drive and if there's any difference between what's on your computer and the player, it will transfer or delete files to make the player's memory the same as the computer.

This is the main reason why so many people think "Sync = Stink".

I don't sync anything. Plus does sync work in both MSC and MTP? I kinda thought it worked in MTP only.

Sorry, I was replying to the OP, not your reply. I should have quoted or otherwise referenced that to be clear. My bad.
