Page The Loose Audio Jack: Solder Fix [Tutorial]

v0.1: http://cid-9221f81e10b78ee2.skydrive...nual%200.1.pdf

You'll find mine there. I'm gonna see if I have enough time to maybe eventually post up a video for this/update the written one. Should work for any P2/PB2. Dunno if the P3 will have this problem. In short, you're just re-applying and adding solder to the three audio jack contacts. Enjoy

mine was still under warranty so i sent it.
after a week or so i got it back all they did was erase everything on it! i was mad. i had filled out the forms stating the problem was the headphone jack.
i called them and complained, they paid the shipping this time... to be sure i stuck a note in with the packaging in bold letters FIX HEADPHONE JACK.
this time when i got it back it was fixed.

Thanks for this! My son's P2 headphone jack was messed up, I followed the instructions to take apart and also put the solder on, however issue still was there. So I had to drop a bead of solder on the back side down in the slot on the back which fixed the issue. So just an FYI and thanks so much for the document!!!

Glad it worked, the extra solder in the slots was going to be an addition to the guide when I had time

push/pull/push/pull/push/pull … of the head phone plug into the audio jack, some are build quality issues, while others are just carelessness :/

*Updated with the solder supplementation instructions for the "other" side of the jack. Seems to help A LOT in keeping the connections intact

god damn it, my p2 is just out of warranty and its got a dodgy audio jack. now everytime i got it in my pocket it moves and it cuts in and out. to make matters worse, my E2C's are breaking. looks like i may have to resort to this.. would people recommend this to someone who has very little soldering experience?

Thank you!

Using this guide, I was able to save my P2 that broke two weeks after warranty expired!

well i bit the bullet and tried my luck with soldering the audio jack. I did it but it still is as loose as a wizard's sleeve. Though the cutting in and out has disappeared i fear this is only temporary. Thanks for the guide though. really helped.

worked like a charm! though, at the beginning i wasn't to careful and accidentaly dripped some solder on the screen .

lol, i cleaned it quick and there was minimal damage. so, if you are going to try this, just be careful!

Tried this and it worked great, I think eventually, I will have to put some solder on the back of the circuit as the guy above said.

hey great tut.
just curious...does your p2 work completely find now?
Also i didnt have a soldering iron so i just took a bic lighter and burned the 3 points on the audio jack. ..and it still doesnt work. do you think soldering it would still fix it?

thanks.

Mine's still working, haven't had to open it since. A lighter won't work because it can't sustain the required heat long enough, plus it's awkward to hold the flame to the exact point and it gets hot. I would strongly recommend a real soldering iron for this job. Good luck

hey
i ordered a soldering iron so i should be performing this operation in few days.
Just wondering..out of the 3 soldering points, the top left one is near a piece of chip(NAND Flash) and i was just curious how you worked it. would it be ok for the solder to sort of overlap the chip(NAND Flash)?

i pulled it off just now and its working just fine now.
...but i did put a little too much solder so the jack is extremely tight now. i can barely take it in and out. -__-

Don't solder the NAND flash or your P2 will be dead. Forever.
