Hi there, I wonder if anyone can help. One day all my tunes dissapeared from my iriver HD340. I assumed it was the hard drive and bought a new one. I have just fitted it but when connected to my laptop it does not show up on the drive menu despite there being a satisfying bloop beep sound from windows and a message saying the drivers were successfully installed. So I can't SEE the drive to do anything with it. does anyone have any thoughts?
thanks so much Gavin |

Gavin, welcome to ABI
Chances are that the replacement hard drive needs to be formatted. Try using a utility called SwissKnife, which has been proven very successful in these situations. EDIT: If you replaced it with the same capacity of 40GB than you can probably use the formatter that is built into the H340.

Just a quick addition to MH's post,
It needs to be formatted as a FAT32 file system for the player to recognize it. |

Thank you both. I will check it out. Not sure how to format a drive that the computer can't see? Once swiss knife is on board will it show up?
thanks Gavin |

IIRC it will.
You can also try Fat32Formatter, which is also free, if swissknife wont recognize it. |

Quote:
Chances are it's not showing up as of now because the hard drive is not partitioned. Once it's partitioned via Swissknofe or whatever other partition software you will use, it will be designated a drive letter, which should appear via WIndows Explorer
