Which is your favourite album of all time?

For me it's In The Aeroplane Over The Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel which Best Ever Albums rates as 18th of all time: http://www.besteveralbums.com/thechart.php?a=970

It's not an easy listen, at first, but it has come to be my favourite over the past 10 years. Better than Radiohead, better than Arcade Fire, better than anything else, really.

My personal favorite is To Our Children's Children's Children by The Moody Blues. While I can see why most people consider it good/great, but not an immortal classic, to me it is simply stunning. The Moody Blues were my first musical love, so a lot of its appeal to me no doubt stems from nostalgia. I will say that it is far and away my favorite MB album. While they have several great ones, not one even comes close to TOCCC for me.
If I were to pick one of the more generally-accepted immortal classics, I would have to go with (my actual 2nd favorite album) The Beatles (The White Album).
My top two or three are basically set in stone and probably won't ever change (but who knows), but there are many albums vying for the top 15-20 which would change positions all the time depending on what I'd been listening to, how I was feeling, etc. I really consider them all basically equal in quality.

Agreed. I might be able to narrow it down to maybe 25 or so, but anybody with musical tastes beyond just 1 genre or is old enough to have heard music and artists through several decades is not goinig to be able to pinpoint just one!

And just my own personal opinion on the subject, but most of those published "greatest of all time" artist/album/song/video lists are pretty much BS anyway. It all depends on what entries are nominated, who (and how many) are voting on it, and why (are they politically, financially or otherwise externally motivated?), what their musical tastes and/or backgrounds are, so on and so on.

Nope, it's not just you. They just want us to argue about their lists and draw more attention to them so they can get more magazine readers or page views on their websites.

+1. That would be a really hard decision.

And besides, even if you know a lot of music, you probably don't know every single album, so therefore can't really say it's the best of all time .

True, but I can't help smell a faint whiff of cop-out here and some of the other posts.
Doesn't everybody have that one personal best album that is beyond objective debate? I don't care how many people are underwhelmed by my favorite album...it's still unabashedly my favorite.

Definitely agree here. Even when I think Tower records had their 10 desert island discs, I'd be hard pressed to come up with that short of a list. Hell, I'm having a hard time coming up with the best of 2012.

I liken it to automobiles. If I could afford to, I'd have a football field sized warehouse with all shapes, sizes and colors to suit my mood. Luckily music is a lot cheaper

I used to carry ~250 cds with me when I was globe-trotting back in the pre-mp3 player days and I'd swap some, if not all, out every time I got "home".
