I think either white or black.
If you'd ever be in sunlight with it, I'd recommend white....heat is the enemy of laptops.

+1 on Asus I'd definitely go for that model, white. Asus is quality as Marvin said, I've got an Asus laptop from 09 and it's still working great except for a dead battery lol.

I've decided to hold off on buying anything for at least 6 months.

I've got access to a netbook if my laptop fails in the meantime. I was in a store today and played around with the Mac Book Air.. I don't really want one, couldn't afford it anyway, but would like something that light. In 6 months I'll have more money, anyway, and should have a better idea of what I really do want from a new laptop.

Sounds like a good idea to me. A friend of mine has an Acer ultrabook that is very similar to the Air....and was half the price. Plus it was touchscreen . Ultrabooks are a better deal than the MacBook Air IMO.

A nice thing about Apple and the MacBooks is, they set a standard for the PC world to follow, at significantly less cost. Likewise have been impressed with Acer ultrabooks, even including a DVD drive.

I think you made a good decision to wait a little longer especially with the next generation Intel Haswell coming out soon.

Here are some Acer ultrabooks....some of them are quite expensive, but they're a good choice IMO.

Well, a year has passed and I haven't bought a laptop - I'm still limping along with this netbook.

PCs aren't exciting - it seems the technology has barely moved in 5 years.

I have noticed, though, in the past year that I've moved to Google services in a big way..when this netbook dies I'll probably go for a Chromebook and ditch Microsoft products for good.

I have an HP laptop I purchased from Target here in the USA. It's about 1 1/2yrs old. My HDD failed a few weeks ago & I sent it in for repair under the extended 2yr warranty I purchased from Target. I got my laptop back w/a smaller HDD (mine was 1TB, this on is 700GB). I was mad at first, until I realized the tech I spoke to hooked me up with an SSD!!! Holy CRAP!!! EXCELLENT!!!

I know this is OT, but I'm TOTALLY impressed with the service I received.

As for a Chromebook, if I could I would. I need my music management apps, and they're all Windows specific. But, as a side device, a Chromebook is nice - if I didn't have a brick for a phone with a huge screen & 2.5 days of battery life between charges. My Note 3 + Zerolemon 10,000mah battery are AMAZING!!!

I normally do HPs just because I have enough dell to deal with at work, and they've actually been pretty decent for me.

I'm kind of intrigued by the asus t100, although it looks kind of stubby on the performance end. I'd like a badass version.

HP laptops are notorious for overheating it seems and this apparently affects other components failing. Even HP Chromebook has been recently recalled because of overheating charger that melts.

I have 2 HP Envy 14 and they have never had a issue. They are built like a tank.

Well, the new HP Chrome book definitely has heating issues.

I'm tempted by the Acer C270 - it seems good for the price.

I got the Acer C720 which is reviewed here: http://hothardware.com/Reviews/Acer-...mebook-Review/

This seems to be the best consumer Chromebook to date (not really counting the Pixel as that is luxury). It has haswell architecture and gets battery life of 9 hours plus. The screen is average in terms of viewing angles etc. but at least it is matte.

Everything just works. After putting in my Google ID, all my books, music and other files are there and it of course supports Google's own office apps - which can be used offline, too.

It has a card reader, HDMI port and USB2 and 3 ports - transferring a movie from my USB3 external hard drive took just seconds, I've never used USB3 before.

In general this is a lot quicker than the netbook I was using, and I don't think I'll miss any Windows programs, nor should I need any more than the 16Gb provided, (I now have 175Gb free space on Google Drive) but it is good to know I can sideload stuff should I choose to.

I'll post some pics in a few days - I'm pleased that I now have all Google devices, Moto G, Nexus 7 2013 and a Chromebook.

I could certainly do about 90% of my normal PC use with a Chromebook, although I'd like a bigger screen than that one. But I couldn't get by with only a Chromebook....there are still some things I need one of my Windows 7 PCs to do.

There's little I can think of that I would miss...perhaps MP3 Tag, but all my music is tagged, and newer stuff I just get from Google.

I've still got the netbook and over the holidays I'm going to make sure that everything on it of value is transferred to an external HD and put online, also.

Coming from a 10" netbook, the 11.6 of the Acer feels pretty big, but I wouldn't want a larger screen than that because of portability. It does feel slim, light and well put together.
