So please help - does my ideal device exist? Help / advice appreciated... |

The Touch has really good analog bits. If you want DSP effects like some of the Cowon players have, you can probably download them from the app store.

Get an app from the App Store on an iPod touch. The sq is equal to any Cowon. SonicMax Pro has the BBE enhancements, and there's the EQu or Equalizer apps for excellent sound adjustments.

Gary, there are various apps that can be downloaded that can emulate the sound of the J3, especially SonicMax's BBE app. Please read this thread: http://anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=66800
It emulates most of the setings for BBE, and sounds pretty much like he Cowon players. There's also EQU and the Equilizer app, which gives you complete control of the audio spectrum.
