I need something non touch screen based that has a built in speaker for less than 100 dollars. Also, I would need something that can have at least 7 or 8 hours of podcast play before needing to recharge. Something at least 2 gigs I guess. Size of player isnt a huge issue, but i guess smaller is better.
I listen at work but we are not allowed headphones. I usually drop it in my shirt pocket. I've been using my phone, but I need something with buttons for easy access to pause and play. Thanks! |

Sony S Series Walkman with speaker: http://www.google.com/products/catal...ed=0CHoQ8wIwAg
This was really the only player I've seen that has a speaker. The other option might be a Creative or iriver player. A Google search will help you out. Happy hunting!

Here's an idea. How about buying a recorder instead?
The Olympus WS802 comes with a rechargeable nimh battery, and the recorder can charge an nimh battery in it via usb connection. The WS802 has many features for playback including variable speed playback with pitch control, blank skip, and a noise cancelling function for playback. It has a microSDHC card slot. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B006ZW4H4C http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_se...ls.asp?id=1602 Last edited by JK98; 11-15-2012 at 07:29 PM. |

Is there a good place to buy older mp3 players? I'm having a hard time finding that Sony mp3 player for sale.

I've spent bunches of time on Google. In fact, it led me here.
I assumed I could get more informed and specific advice from people here. |

Did you look at "Creative" or "iriver" players for one with a speaker?

Well Im looking for cheap. There is the creative zen stone plus, but that isnt sold anywhere anymore either. It might have been perfect.
The other stuff I found is either over my budget or touch screen based. |

No maker of quality equipment is making the player you're looking for now that I know. Everything that's decent with a speaker is either touch pad or touch screen.
Sony clearanced the S 544 a few months ago at around $50. Once that happens the only places you'll find them new is ebay or Amazon at inflated prices. You may find them used for less. That's why TDS is telling you a search would be your best option. There's no centralized seller of older mp3 players I've ever found.

Yeah, agree. Nobody has told you a specific model because there isn't one. just because we want something specific doesn't mean it actually exists...or that anybody else cares about that same list of features enough to know a player to tell you. sometimes you just have to roll up your sleeves and read a bunch. Because if you don't want to do it, why would anyone want to do that for you?
you also glossed right over a previous suggestion of an external speaker. those can be had for real cheap in all kinds of sizes. that would open up your player selection immensely. You could get a store brand or polaroid crap-fest from walmart and plug in a $10 speaker and you are all set for dirt cheap. also consider used or refurbs. might not be any around right now but I have seen sony refurbs for $50-60. place like tigerdirect.com and the sony store. maybe even cowboom |

http://www.ebay.com/itm/REFURB-BLACK...item4d06ef38d8 and the same seller has a red S544 for $40 http://www.ebay.com/itm/REFURB-RED-S...item4abe82a870 Steve

What is wrong with using AAA batteries? You can use nimh rechargeables. The WS802 will charge an nimh battery in it.
Using a AAA battery gives you the flexibility to swap batteries and carry a spare battery if you want to. Using an nimh rechargeable AAA battery is a great advantage, not a disadvantage. Battery life using the built in speaker and an nimh rechargeable AAA battery is at least 15 hours. Last edited by JK98; 11-29-2012 at 06:55 PM. |
