Huge losses at Sharp and Panasonic

Panasonic expects losses of around $9.6 billion this year. Sharp announced they might not survive. Sony is also having huge losses. I guess part of the reason is major market share gains by Samsung(and perhaps LG as well?) in televisions(and perhaps other electronics as well?), as well as a strong yen.

Will these companies turn around? Perhaps some of them might merge to be able to better compete against their strong Korean competators?

Wouldn't break my heart to see Sony bite the dust. They've done their best over the years to try and lock people into their proprietary stuff. And while they seemed to actually have quality products back in the day, they've just been riding on that rep for far too long.

I was rooting for HD-DVD over Blu-Ray because they finally shed the region code BS.

Sony is to big to die off, they have their fingers in everything. They may get smaller but to fully die out they would have to have a CEO that is sabotaging them or else it take a epically huge boycott.

Isn't that what they use to say about the Detroit companies and more than one would have gone under if the government didn't bail them out. While it's been ages since I've bought any sony or sharp products I'm not sure I'd want to see them go away, they keep pricing competitive as others are always cheaper than sony
