This is why I mentioned gas earlier, I switched over to that for water heater and cooking long ago and it's never gone down. If I didn't have gas I would most definitely use generator, once you're done with it drain gas and they last for many a year. BTW I don't know if FEMA will do what they did down here during Wilma storm but if they do, jump on it. Basically they would write you a check for a generator & chain saw up to a certain amount, can't remember if it was $500 or $600 but certainly worth it. Edit: don't throw away your receipt, you'll need it for refund.

I don’t pay much attention to TV (ABC, CBS or Fox) weather peeps, they over sensationalize everything. Hope you understand what I’m relaying by that, many times I think they’re funded by home depot and the supermarkets but that’s another story. For the best coverage I use NOAA, no hype and the real facts. From my observations on NOAA it seems it’s coming in on the northern side of Delaware Bay, from past experience I believe they’re very accurate. Good luck riding it out ...

Edit: While I prefer the BW flash image better, the color ones really show the eye wall very defined and extremely expanded compared to the way these storms hit us down south.

My ex-wife is trapped in the lower east side in her apt bldg in Manhattan, there's major flooding throughout quite a bit of all of NYC, and train service might be out all week because there's so much water in all the underground tubes & tunnels. This really is amazingly bad - but because of the storm surge. The rain was/is pathetic. The wind so-so,...but we have trees down everywhere. This is frigging horrible,...

As for sleep Marv, we get naps at our quarters, and try to rest when we can. It's so windy out we aren't allowed on ANY elevated tracks ATM. When the winds die down the shit will hit the fan.

And JK98, we've been watching ABC news throughout the whole thing (when we get our downtime). Thanks for the heads up. But, since I work for NYCT I get a little more info than some others. I'm not saying everything, just what I can. We have rules of conduct we have to adhere to,...even me.

Around my part of NYC every seems fine. Power didn't go out. Not much wind damage either, except for a branch that fell on a van (didn't damage it though).

Right now it is 66°F, partly sunny, and windy....SE 20mph gusting to 32mph here. Looks like more clouds and some rain are expected later this afternoon.

Interesting, when she passed offshore of us we got 45 to 55mph winds and it's been in the mid 50°'s here but has started warming up already to 69°
