Hello.
New user, 1st post. I just got myself the B&W P5s, which I must say sound a lot better then my previous Shure in-ears and Grado headphones...μ-ziq never sounded so good! However, they come with a redundent "made for iPod" cable, which I want to replace. Any advice on where to get and which cable to get? also I'm using the FiiO e5 with my Sansa Clip+ (Rockbox enabled!). PS, cable which connect to the P5s is a 2.5mm male, slim housing. Cheers. BB EDIT: One more thing, where can I pick up a decent very short 3.5mm male to male cable to connect the Clip+ and FiiO amp? Right angled preferable as they will be stuck back to back with velcro. ![]()

Do you need the cables because you don't already have them or the ones you have are faulty? If not, don't bother. 'Better' cables are, quite frankly, a total waste of money. Better off spending the cash on a better pair of headphones or more music.
That said, your headphones look interesting. How do they sound? |

The reason I want to change the cable is because the one supplied has the iPod volume/track select control...this is useless to me as I dont own an iPod.
Sound wise? That's subjective...all I can recommend is visiting an *cough*apple store*cough* and trying them out. That's what I did, the look on the guy's face when I pulled out the Sansa instead of an iPod

Oh. Well, in that case, I'm sorry but I can't help you with P5 cable. The 3.5mm male-to-male, however, you should be able to get in just about any audio shop.

The parts are easily accessible if you solder, If you can’t make your own, you could try to send an email to techsupport@bwgroupusa.com to see if they can help, I have read that the replacement ipod cable if not under warranty cost $50.68 from them but if you're under warranty it's free, ask for alternatives.
The 3.5 to 3.5mm IC cables are also easy to make, you could get some ideas from our thread here but if you can’t make them, ibasso has a 32.00 cable http://www.ibasso.com/en/products/show.asp?ID=54, if you want something cheaper, check dealextreem.

Just purchase a standard replacement cable, since they'll work with even a $.99 cable. No real custom option is necessary,...unless your looking for bragging rights.

Thread moved and renamed.
It's rather silly, but it seems that B&W really don't sell an alternative cable without iPod remote. Maybe drop them a mail, asking if they have any plans to release an official cable for the two or three people out there that don't use an iPod? I'm sure there are generic 2.5-to-3.5 cables available, but the question is if the 2.5mm plug fits into the rather narrow crevice inside the ear cups. The stock cable diameter seems to be on the thin side as well, next to the 2.5mm plug being rather tiny. As Walkgood said, DIY might be your best chance. As for the cable between the E5 and the Clip+: didn't the E5 come with a cable already?

My bad, didn't really see what was needed. Here's a 2.5mm to 3.5mm cable on Amazon.com:
http://www.amazon.com/Optoma-BC-MJMJ.../dp/B002T022UK A Google will find more available, w/no custom work or high prices attached. Even Radio Shack carries this type of cable - so problem solved!!!

That looks like a very weird/proprietary 4-pole plug, and the 2.5mm plug looks kind of big to be fitting the cable canal on the P5.

This is from a Google search: http://www.google.com/products/catal...d=0CG8Q8wIwAQ#
There were quite a few other results,... Here's a right angle cable as well: http://www.google.com/products/catal...d=0CHoQ8wIwAA#

dfkt you’re right, I didn’t notice before but it does look like a 4 pole TRRS plug like the one’s used for a headset microphone and control button.
Edit: TDS the right angle wouldn't work and the other plugs look too large for his need, look at the OP's picture, but I'm sure there's one out there that would work.

Sorry to post in such an old thread but I was searching for AGES to find a decent alternative to the original cable and arrived at this post but I thought i'd share my findings so you won't have to go down the DIY route . I found this http://www.custom-cable.co.uk/black-...1.2-metre.html Feels alot better than the original and there is not as much feedback from the cable when walking. I hope this might help a few peeps.

I think you did too,...for home usage. These are for on the go. And the sq is supposed to be quite good. Not reference,...but damn solid.
I'd rather get a set of Sony or Incase cans instead. I want fun & inexpensive. these just are a waste of cash for me,...I could get a whole bunch of stuff for the same price.
