Cowon Volume Poll

I am curious to see the variance in volume levels people choose to listen to their cowon devices. Therefore I am starting a very basic poll to get some kind of idea. Please post your player and vote volume level that best reflects the levels you listen to. Feel free to tell explain in your post. Please leave amps out of this, but of course use the headphone of your choice. If possible also have BBE off, flat/natural EQ. Thanks!

I voted 7-14 for my cowon i9, normally around 11 to be exact. On my i7 I listen between 7-12, normally around 9.

Edit: BTW I made the poll public in case you don't post others can see what volumes you use. That said it would be interesting to know what player you use ...

The actual volume depends on the sensitivity of the headphones. You can get a rough idea of the level you are listening at by using this chart: http://www.gcaudio.com/resources/howtos/loudness.html.

I don't remember myself, as I had so many different hp's hooked up to the different models. But, if someone can send me a C2 I'll reevaluate my stance on the matter.

I know it sounds strange but, I can hear it ok around level 7, but i only enjoy it around at level 19. The increase in volume between the levels doesn't seem big to my ears

Bruce is betting that more peeps will fall into his range than less than the 50% volume up. So you're both taking the 5th in that you can't remember if you flew with it at 50% + on the volume How loud do you run with you're current player?

Cowon J3, volume 15-17 with PFE 112s.
Impedance: 32 ohms
Sensitivity: 107 dB/mW, 1kHz

With my D2+ I think I was around 18-22 with the same headphones.

There are so many variables here that I think the colume setting is a moot point. The contributing factors are the type of headphones, the audio levelof the actual recording, the listening sensitivity of the user, and the environment where the person is listening. Obviously, noisy environment will require a higher listening level than a quiet setting. I didn't mention about using EQ settings because it was pointed out that a flat setting is used. BTW: I voted 29 through the 35 range

I'll be honest, and I will say I NEVER listened to my Cowon players above 35. And I ONLY went to 35 because the hp's were so crappy & low in volume that it required the extra "oomph". I never listen to music at loud volume,...my pops was almost deaf, so I don't wanna NOT be able to enjoy my tunes.

Bruce, sadly, seems to be on the route to hearing loss.

PS: I voted 22-28, and I was rockin' out in that volume range. Plus, this was without an amp. The 35 stated above was an anomaly,...

OK, well first things first. Bruce has everything MP3Gained to 94db (I distinctly remember MP3Gain indicating clipping even at 92db when I tried that.) As a result of that, when I had my Cowons, I had everything on them MP3Gained to 89db. Even so, I don't think I ever even hit 25/39. The headphones I mostly used with them are both dead now, so I can't make a direct comparison.

Now, I have everything ReplayGained to 89db.

Current players.....with my preferred headphones, (JVC HA-S500 with HD25 velour pads, 32ohm, 106db/1mW)

Rockboxed Zip, -25db to -20db on a favorite song, with preamp value at 0.0.

Motorola Atrix 4G, using Rockbox with all the same parameters set.....volume in the -55 to -50db range

Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0, using Rockbox with all the same parameters set....volume in the -55 to -50db range

So overall, that volume setting for the Zip is roughly 2/3 of what the player is capable of, if the screen graphic is accurate....and the two Android devices are somewhere over 1/3 but not up to 1/2, again assuming screen graphic's accuracy.

Using my Classic line-out to FiiO E11, volume knob is at roughly 2/8.

The typical volume level on my J3 is around 12-14, depending on the music. HP impedance as shown here.
