My Clip+'s clip broke a few months ago and I've just been stuffing it in my pocket or strapping it to my arm when I work out while I figure out a way to fix it (yes I've seen the fix it thread). There's a sale on the Clip Zip Special Edition, and I noticed the description says it has an aluminum clip, but are the hinges still plastic like on the Clip+?

It's plastic only the topside of the clip is brushed aluminum the underside of that is plastic. The clip seems to be sturdier than the one on the clip+. I have had mine for a year & it has held up.

The Zip's clip generally seems hardier than the earlier Clips' (original Clip and Clip+) clips.

While I've owned several of every model except the "+" and no issue yet (v1, v2, zip) with clip function or breaking. I can say that it's my belief that most of the issues I've read about are not necessarily with the clip, it’s more with the eyelets on the back of the main housing or the clip itself. So just because my Zip's clip is metal doesn't lead me to believe it's any stronger than the others. Now I'd love to hear if they made a true special one with a full metal jacket housing and a little bit better of a screen.
