Windows Upgrade Offer goes live, but you won’t get Windows 8 until October 26

On June 2, Microsoft launched the Windows Upgrade Offer program to provide anyone who purchases a new Windows 7 PC with a copy of Windows 8 Pro for just $14.99. Windows 8 isn’t scheduled for a public release until October 26, but Microsoft is already starting to let eligible customers reserve their copy of the operating system. Everyone who fills out the form will be emailed a special promo code on October 26, which can be used to purchase Windows 8 Pro.

Here’s how it works: Purchase an eligible Windows 7 PC or tablet between June 2, 2012 and July 31, 2013, then make your way over to the Windows Upgrade Offer website and enter your PC make and model, retailer, date of purchase, and the 25-digit Windows 7 product key that came with the device. Then, just launch the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant on your PC between October 26, 2012 and February 28, 2013, proceed through the wizard, and enter your promo code to take advantage of the $14.99 pricing. Of course, if you have an older PC, you can always just pick up an upgrade copy of Windows 8 for $39.99.

I read an article saying that it was good on a tablet but complete shit on a PC, so noooooo.

I wonder if people will just not upgrade? I know a lot of ppl stuck with xp when vista came out but as far as I know pretty much everyone adopted windows 7. . .

I do wonder if Win8 will kinda be seen as a Vista, on PCs, as compared to Win7, which has received a sort of gold seal of approval from users.

I'll probably dual boot it after everyone's tried it out first. Hard to get a good feel for something unless you live with it.

that is a valid point but if it has that tablet feeling interface of windows phone 7 i may not even dual boot it, to each his own though.

however in a few months microsoft will make revisions

There are some features in windows 8 that are just down right epic. But there are other things that are completely retarded(and go against the whole idea of the system... 'windows').

Coming from someone who has yet to try Windows 8, what are some of the things you find epic? Trying to plan if I should give it a go or not.

Things like this, yes I know you can get this info in windows 7, but in 8 its formatted great and is just a click away.

There is more information in the windows 8 task manager though. I too keep it at hand on windows 7. Like I said, you can find all the info in windows 7 but in 8 its all their and laid out very nicely. I didn't mess with it long but there were features I liked, for instance, its FAST. Boots quick, installs quick.. I guess we'll see how well it does soon as its officially released.

I've been using it for two weeks now and I haven't used Windows 7 much at all since I installed Windows 8. I actually like the new start screen, you customize and make it more useful than the old start menu. There is also other changes I like as well.

I am pretty sure I will buy it when it comes out, especially now that they've reduced the price of and upgrade substantially. It is $40 dollars for Windows 8 Pro.

My experience with Vista & Windows 7 being a significant downgrade in usability from Windows XP leaves me leery about Windows 8. But for 15 bucks I may try it a VM or dual boot.
