Did firmware help with Cowon D3?

I'm looking for a replacement for my Cowon J3, and I saw that Cowon released a new player called the Z2. However, it's a bit pricey and the 16 GB model is the only one within my price range, and it only comes in white. I'm not entirely sure why, but I REALLY don't want a white player I was looking at the D3 and I found a 32 GB refurb model being sold for about $180, around the same price I paid for my 16 GB J3. Did the firmware fix most of its bugs or is it just a bad product overall?
