![]() After a few leaks and rumors, Research In Motion (RIM) has officially announced the PlayBook 4G LTE, which it claims is “ultra-powerful, ultra-portable, and ultra-fast.” The device’s main selling point is its 4G LTE connectivity, 32GB of internal memory, and faster dual-core processor, which has been bumped up from 1GHz to 1.5GHz. The rest of the specs, however, haven’t changed much. The PlayBook 4G LTE includes the same 7-inch display, 1GB of RAM, 5MP back-facing camera, 3MP front-facing camera, HDMI out, and stereo speakers. It will, of course, run BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2. The PlayBook 4G LTE will launch first in RIM’s home country of Canada on August 9, where it will be available on Bell, Rogers, and TELUS. Other countries will follow “in the coming months,” including the US, Europe, South Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Pricing is still unknown at this point, but it will reportedly retail for approximately $549.95. With BlackBerry 10 still in development and many great tablets on the market, does it make sense to pick up a PlayBook? Maybe if you’re completely into the RIM ecosystem. [MarketWatch via CNET]

Good to see RIM still trying. But they really need to focus on the apps, IMO.

The only reason i got a playbook was because of the price(199$) on boxing day as probably did a lot of other playbook owners IMO.I dont see what the draw is to this latest version with no real improvements and a smaller battery to boot.Maybe it's a halfhearted attempted to try and release something.
its tough with the nexus 7 out now and the ipad mini on the way.

I can't see them selling any at $549. It didn't work the first time either. My guess is that they'll sell you one for $199 so long as you sign up for a data plan.
