![]() After a long series of delays, the 4G LTE version of the BlackBerry PlayBook is expected to go on sale in RIM’s home country of Canada on July 31 for $549.95. Bell will be the first carrier to sell the tablet in Canada, with others to follow soon after. The 7-inch device is very similar to the original 7-inch BlackBerry PlayBook, but RIM has taken the opportunity to add 4G LTE (with HSPA+) connectivity. The Waterloo-based company has also bumped up the processor from 1GHz dual-core to an enhanced 1.5GHz dual-core processor. The rest of the specs remain unchanged: 1GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory, a 5MP back camera with 1080p HD video, a 3MP front-facing camera, and a 4800mAh battery. The real question here is whether the BlackBerry PlayBook is currently worth picking up. There are many great tablets on the market – or coming to the market in the near future – and RIM’s BlackBerry 10 OS isn’t scheduled to be released until next year. Would you consider purchasing a PlayBook? [MobileSyrup]

Sounds like they are trying to make lemonade out of the BlackBerry lemon. When the rest of the world has moved up to quad core processors and they had to fire sale the first playbook it makes no sense to me why they think just adding a cellular radio and bumping the processor speed is enough to pull them out of the basement.
