Solution to ATH-M50's sweaty pleather

It is fairly easy to sew a thin layer of velour or cotton (or other soft, breathable, natural material) onto the pleather earpads of this headphone. Pictured below is my first attempt at this - rather rudimentary, but the next attempt will surely have fewer creases. Unlike when using velour pads from other headphones, I have not detected any change in sound, even while comparing them side by side (non-modified earpad on one ear, modified on the other). The boost in comfort of this solution is really quite incredible and makes these among the most comfortable of studio monitor headphones, on par with the DT770 perhaps. It also breaks in rather well, with the pleather eventually cracking inside the material and forming a mushy, comfy pillow.

Indeed, but they change the sound (tested this with my own DT250 pads). It is also possible to use Shure SRH940 velours with this headphone, and possibly some other brands as well (Fischer Audio FA-003 comes to mind). All reports from people attempting this that I have read so far state that the sound is changed. This solution leaves the sound signature of the ATH-M50 intact.

Looks really nice. Did you sew it through the pleather? If so, it would be kinda irreversible. But how on earth did you sew the inner circle

Take the pads off the headphone. Measure a strip of material that will go from the inner circle to the outer circle and all around the cushioned pleather doughnut. Sew through the inner/outer circle (at the bottom of the earpad, just below where the cushioned bit starts, its a 1mm thin layer) to connect the two edges of the material. It is kinda reversible but some damage has been done to the pads at that inner/outer circle area.

Also, don't forget to mark the places where there are holes in the pleather at the bottom of the inner area. Punch new holes in there after you've sewed on the material.
