Default White Evo 4G LTE, Red Galaxy S III available on July 15 from Sprint, AT&T

The print was still wet on AT&T's announcement of its exclusive red Galaxy S III when Sprint swooped in and stole some thunder with its white HTC Evo 4G LTE. The white Evo 4G LTE will be available in-store and online starting this Sunday, July 15. The maroon Samsung Galaxy S III will also be available July 15, but for pre-order only. In-store purchases will start on July 29. All of the other specifications, including price, will remain the same for both phones.

All these color changes make me start asking questions, specifically about the Galaxy S III. Normally, color additions are done somewhat down the road after launch, often as blatant attempts at continuing enthusiasm in a device that doesn't quite justify its premium anymore—I'm looking at you, Mr. Black Friday red Droid Incredible 2. But the Galaxy S III is still a baby, especially in the US. With the Evo 4G LTE, I would say that this is a sign that we can expect a price drop reasonably soon—probably once the sales dip back down from the new color. But what about the Galaxy S III?

I would like to think the same, though I find it very hard to believe that AT&T and Samsung are ready to give up on the profit margin that quickly—to say nothing of HTC and Sprint. What do you think? And how do you like the colors? Personally, I'm a fan of the red on the Galaxy S III, it's probably my favorite version so far—too bad it's exclusive to AT&T. As to the Evo 4G LTE, I can take or leave the color, but at least it won't incessantly look smudged now.
