Charge Clip Zip or Plus with 30-pin cable

My gym on their treadmills have apple 30-pin male connectors for apple devices. Sometimes I forget to charge my Sansa Clip Plus (and my soon to be delivered Zip). I found this 30-pin female to USB male cable:

I could then easily find an adapter for the USB end of the cable to connect to the Clip. My question is will this be safe for the Clip? Or, I could just keep a small battery backup in my bag. I hate to workout without music.

There appears to be a standing issue with Apple device connections versus standard USB. I would strongly suggest that you charge at home. My Clip+ gives me over 4 hours of play time at the gym.

Sansaguy12...The USB plug on that cable won't fit in either Clip. Ana I think the 30pin end is designed to go into an iPod, so it would presumably be the same as the one in the gym.

-FreeZ5. I would get an adapter to go from the USB plug on the cable, to a male USB plug for the Sansa. The female 30-pin plug would connect to the male 30 pin connector on the treadmill. A cable with a female 30-pin connector was hard for me to find.

You'll fry the clip,... And that cable is an extension cable, to dock an Apple device when in a case. I own a few of them,...

You CANNOT use the iPod docks with the Sansa. I know from (stupid) personal experience.

I tried it, and all I got was sparks, smoke, nasty rubber burning smell, and an orange wheel light (ha!) . Also the screen gets all warped and you can't make out the videos nor pictures, making about 2/3's of your Sansa useless.

I'm such an idiot for trying it but hey, now everyone here knows that, or maybe y'all already did . . .

Thanks. I'll get a small backup battery for the times when I forget to charge the Clip. I love that when I use the clip I don't have the headphone wire going to the treadmil. My wife uses an ipod at the gym, and she never has to even think about charging it. There are always tradeoffs...

At my gym the machines have usb ports in them check around on yours maybe there is one on there somewhere
