Default Broke 3 Sansa Clips, need a new mp3 player

I'm pretty heavy handed. I keep dropping my mp3 players and breaking them. In the last 2 years I've gone through 3 Sansa Clips that way. The problem is that the clip breaks and I end up just shoving the thing down my t-shirt. I'm also pretty clumsy so I end up catching the cable and sooner or later drop the thing.

So, I could buy another, but ideally I could do with one with a string / lanyard attachment. It doesn't need to come with one, but I need a hole for one. Without having to drill one!

My requirements / info:

I live in the UK, so I need something I can buy locally / easily get online.

I'll be using it for audiobooks and podcasts mainly, so it must be comfortable with 2hr + long files, and must support resuming.

I need it to charge by USB

It must have MSC (I don't use windows or mac, I use Linux) transfer as an option at least. It mustn't insist I use itunes etc. I don't sync. Drag / drop all the way.

I need at least 4GB but am not too fussed if that's all it has.

I want a screen. I'd also prefer it to allow me to delete files as I go.

Fairly robust. I don't need it to withstand world war III, but I want it to at least survive me.

£50 max. Sorry. Not made of money.

Any help appreciated.

Have you tried putting one of those soft silicone cases on any of your Clips? The Clip+ and Zip models have a pretty sturdy clip on it, as compared to the wimpy original one. You actually could drill a hole in the clip for a lanyard if you want to, but the silicone case is cushy & resilient and I would think protect the player from most drops and falls.

I've put one on everything I've got, drop them all the time, and they're all still kicking, sans damage, but maximum drop is probably only a couple of feet or so.

You could just drill a small hole through the clip part and put a lanyard on that, so you wont be compromising the main case.

A Sansa C250 2GB is an option because of the microSD card slot,it can take cards up to 64GB,at least while having Rockbox on it and it comes with a rubber lanyard cable, the device has a lanyard hole on the top near the headphone outlet.

Get a zip or a clip+ with rockbox both are great players. Of course if you could somehow salvage the players you have that would be idea. Maybe you can come up with some kind of make shift clippng mechanism?

If you get a new clip+ or zip just glue or drill some kind of little eyelet to the back of the clip and run your lanyard through that

something like this

The newest revision of the Clip - the Clip Zip - is reputed to have a MUCH sturdier clip than the older Clip and Clip+ models.

My Clip Zip has taken a lot of drops and the clip is very sturdy. I don't think that you could find a more rugged player. I you thing you have to have a lanyard but don't want to drill, consider that you could clip the player onto the lanyard.
