Don’t know about you, but a Samsung Galaxy S III with Verizon’s nationwide 4G LTE sure sounds like a good way to kick off summer. Unfortunately, if you do not already have some form of grandfathered data plan, you’re going to want to plan your data. Verizon has been running its “Double My Data” promotion since what feels like Thanksgiving—actually there was a short break at the start of the year—but will be ending it on June 5, before Verizon’s launch of the Samsung Galaxy S III.
As far as we know, Samsung’s latest uber-device will be coming to Samsung before July, hopefully sooner. With the device having already launched globally, I think it is safe to assume that this move to cut back on data freebies is nothing more than Verizon trying to get out while the getting is good—and before a possibly unheard of wave of 4G LTE buyers.
Verizon so far has made no official public comments or statements, but has confirmed to GottaBeMobile that the data promotion will be ending on June 5.
The good news is that, assuming we’re right about Verizon’s reasons for ending this promotion, we may be seeing a Verizon-branded Samsung Galaxy S III sooner than expected—perhaps even as soon as next Wednesday, June 6? What say you: business as usual or stunt by Verizon indicating the imminent launch of S III?
