Default Celebrities Impact on Branding & Sales

Not sure what everyone thinks but I’ve never been a fan or any product that’s promoted with a celebrity saying how great it is, much less a dead one. Examples Bob Marley headphones, etc … I think you know what I’m talking about.

So this morning on the net I pull up the news to see that a dead pop star, Michael Jackson will now be adorning the cans of Pepsi, look here here or google any other news. What do you think, will that really help sell more product, are people so desperate to own a famous persons image even if he is dead? I mean no disrespect here, I just don’t get it and wonder what others think. I do buy t-shirts at concerts when I like the shirt design but that’s about it.

Yes, I have and will continue too. If it is something I have never tried before, and it is a favourite celebrity of mine, why not? If I don't like it I'll just go back to my usual brand .

I like the Arnold Palmer Half & Half Iced Tea and Lemonade drinks. But I originally tried those because I liked the iea of the combined flavours, not because it said Arnold Palmer. Can't think of any other Celebrity branded products that I have used.

Putting Michael Jackson on the Pepsi cans/bottles will probably reduce my consumption of Pepsi. I hope they don't do it here in Canada.

No. But regardless of the endorsing, if it were a fine product, then I would buy it if I needed/wanted it. Solely on the reason a celebrity figure is stamped on it doesn't make me buy it.

LOL! I might avoid a product due to an endorsement from a disliked celebrity, however I wouldn't buy a product due to a celebrity endorsement. When I have neutral feelings for a celebrity or like him or her, I might buy a product he or she endorses if the product stands on its own merits.

Nope! I'm usually more suspicious of a product if they think it even needs a celebrities endorsement.

I agree with your statement to some extent, but if a comparable product without an endorsement is lower priced I would go that route which I find more often than not. I believe that most consumers are too smart in this day and age regarding the backing of a product by a celebrity dead or alive. That said, I’m blown away by the masses that buy crap just because there’s someone’s name on it, maybe we abi members are a cut above their target audience

I think the results of this will be skewed hard to the no way based on the ethos of the site.

I might consider a guitar player endorsing a specific amp/guitar/fx unit, but couldn't give two number 2s about what soda, beer, vodka, aftershave, etc. they use. Even then, if it's an unpaid endorsement I'd consider it much more.

You have to pay me to advertise for you. The only way I get branded is if it is in my interest to do so. Create a promotional t-shirt and give it to me for free and I might wear it to the gym. Knock off a percentage and put your stamp on it and I might buy it.

haha, seems to be.

I should clarify: We aren't talking big ticket items here? Cause if we are ... Hell to the no! But food etc, why not? Only a couple of bucks.

We had Dick Smith face and branding all over items when he had Dick Smith foods going, and my Dad would ALWAYS buy his food - it was Australian. Just like when I saw on Master chef they were using a particular kind of chicken stock, I bought that to give it a whirl. Actually tasted better then the one I usually have, so I use that more often now.

Like Jaime Oliver, I see him use a particular brand in his recipes, I'll give that brand a go. If it is shit/expensive, I'll go my usual/cheaper brand.

I don't like to think of it as following the crowd, more just "broadening my own horizons"

Celebrities in product placement is great. It tells me that the company product can't sell on it's own merits. It tells me not to buy stock shares in the company. It tells me if music artist; that you have officially sold-out and all credibility is now gone.

Owning Air Jordan's doesn't improve my life or sport performance or fashion sense.

Joy Division Zune doesn't make my music sound better.

I have to say Kenny Rogers Chicken was pretty awesome though but then again it was his company.

Stevie Ray Vaughn Stratocaster doesn't make me a better musician or even sound like him than any other Fender Strat.

Jerry Gracia Ties doesn't make me more of a snappier dresser.

It is funny how rappers are chosen to endorse and promote audio products. When it comes to rappers. They don't really sing or write or play instruments in the traditional sense. Rappers are not what I would associate with music or fidelity other that excessive bass. Quincy Jones on the other hand knows music and sound but, I'll pass.

In short people like that like certain celebrities buy the allusion that they have a connection with said artist and how that hear, feel, look, preform, or smell. Larry the Cable guy is a very funny comedian but his beer without his name is good but not great.

Ok I admit it, I buy "Rainbow" (a local cheapo brand) products because of the name. The name reminds me of Umbrella Corporation from the resident evil series and that gives me a good zombie apocalypse vibe.

Now that the scary Nicki Minaj is endorsing Pepsi, I am much more likely to only buy Coca-Cola....lol.
