Default Clip+ stops playing, must reboot to continue

All-

I have the latest firmware on my device, via the tool they provide on their website. The device will stop playing after playing an unknown number of songs, if I tell it to "play all" and have it on shuffle. To my mind, it ought to keep playing throughout the entire battery- but after a couple hours' time it will stop and I have to reboot. I have 1700+ songs on the unit between onboard and expansion memory.

Additionally, "rate a song" functionality has stopped working, and all of my songs which were on my Go list have dropped off of said list.

Did these issues persist before you upgraded? If not, why not downgrade the firmware to the previous version. You can get the Clip + firmware from the Clip forums in abi and I'd learn the manual method of install VS using their fw loader.

Edit: Here's the thread http://anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=51524
Download the fw, unzip to the root of your player, disconnect and allow it to upgrade, I can't recall if you need to re-boot it to start the upgrade but you'll know once you get there as I don't use the OF at all. BTW I don't think that thread has been updated, so I'll look into it and place the latest there as well, our apologies.
Edit2: just noticed that marvin has the manual instructions there, you can ignore mine in edit 1.

Yes the problems have been inherent since unboxing.

I see people rave about how good this device is. To me it's pretty shoddy.

You didn't state "since un-boxing" before, you stated that you upgraded the fw (firmware) and then you had problems or that's the way I read it. If you had problems from up-boxing why didn't you return or have it replaced? The warranty is good for one year and if you can't fix it or SanDisk support can't help you fix it over the phone. They'll approve you for a RMA and you can send it in for a replacement.

I'm one of those people who raves about it We have 3 old version 1 clips that are years old running fine, along with 1 version 2 that's still ticking as well. We now have 2 Zip models for a total of 6 running Clips. One Zip from November and one from December, both are running fine. Both our young boys have been using them from version 1 and never an issue we couldn't fix ourselves other than one RMA on the v2 model within the first month. BTW all the Clips in our house run rockbox, the boys started on it from v1 ... Also both our Zips are running with a 32GB card, both internal and mircroSD cards are full to the max.

If you can explain every issue and provide good info, almost any member of abi should be able to help you out. You may just have some errors in your files and a simple CHKDSK could get you going. We need as much and detailed information as you can provide to make suggestions back to you.

Hmm.. 40+ years of reading, I've always seen "vs."... I learned something.

I'm something of an ubergeek, but don't have time to devote to this, and I hardly ever claim warranties. I checked out the Rockbox firmware and have it on my device now- my main complaint years ago when I first tried it was it's being illegible. I found a nice clean yet informative theme and it's looking promising.

I've already been able to play several playlists I was unable to play on the factory FW- such as my submissive's scene playlist- (which is the largest damned part of why we bought the thing to begin with, after our Creative Zen died!). Rockbox is looking promising indeed, now... Thanks largely to the link in your .sig, Ramon!

Additionally, since I've found some *dirt cheap* Clip Zip units for sale, I am picking up a couple- throw Rockbox on them and throw one in my go-bag, one in the tankbag on my bike, possibly give one to my wife if the factory firmware is functioning well.

jeepguy...make sure you update the zip to the .20 firmware if not using Rockbox. Playlists don't work with most of the earlier versions.
