Default Cans for outside.

Im looking for recommendations for a good pair of cans for wearing outside paired with a sansaclip+. The criteria as follows;

1) discreet, nothing thats gonna make u look like a cybertron.
2) sound quality thats decent
3) budget is anything, obviously cheaper the better, but if the job is done at $200 so be it.

To give u an idea, i tried on a pair of Bose headphones like these (might have actually been one of these models) http://worldwide.bose.com/axa/en_au/...ones/page.html and found them to be very low profile while still giving ok audio quality (from instore hifi). But they are $200 so...

Other considerations is the style of music being played is classical in nature, so perhaps bias towards this or even having noise cancellation features might be of interest.

Cheers,

Bruce

I just ordered some Koss KSC75. Soon as they arrive I'll give my opinions on them.

The jvc flats are pretty darn good, and cheap as well. Grab a set, you can't go wrong IMO.

Koss PRODJ100 is a decent and cheap can for outside use. It also has a nice mid-centric sound signature that works well enough for most kinds of music.

The JVC HA-S150 and HA-S160 are almost exactly the same. The HA-S150 was discontinued a while ago, and usually can't be found. The HA-S160 is my favorite headphone under $40. While it is closed, it doesn't isolate that well due to its very small size.

I have the S150 and there's a couple of sets of S160 in the family I've had a chance to listen to quite a bit. I can't say I can hear a bit of difference. There have been some posts saying some audiophile has reviewed them and said there's differences in bass, details, soundstage, ability to transport you into ecstasy etc. I'll just say I don't hear a difference and would get the one that's most convenient.

There's a few sets in the family because everyone's reaction when they hear them is "Whoa!, they sound like this and they only cost that much?". The next step has usually been a trip to the store if they're on sale or they pick up a set when they go on sale again.

The build quality doesn't inspire the greatest confidence. They're kind of clicky and rattly until you put them on. Once you have them on it's easy to forget them. They're lightweight and comfortable. They don't seem as if they should hold up well but mine are about 3 years old now and haven't given me any problems. I don't use them much now but they were my everyday out and about set for months. I've also loaned them to the kids and friends dozens of times and they've survived.

I'd get a set. I doubt you'll regret it and will probably be pleasantly surprised.

The PX100II is expensive though at $55-70. I have the original PX100 and it does sound a bit better than the HA-S160, but imo it is not worth 4-6 x as much as the HA-S160.

Again, the Incase Sonic are well worth a listen. The SQ is excellent. And you can find them for $99 or less. A steal IMO! I've been using mine nonstop since I got them. My Aurvana Live & D2000's are getting dusty.

These are well worth a listen.

I had the original PX100 and HA-S150 at the same time, and I would agree the slight advantage to the PX100, if price wasn't a factor. I have the PX90 now and I think it's better-sounding (less veiled) than the old PX100 was, but it's hard to be sure of that because I can't do a back-to-back comparison.

I could give them a good home.

we need to start some kind of headphone swap program for all of these new cans. Kind of like they do with books over at paberbackswap. we post up what we have and we work in trades to find new things to try. would never work in actuality but is fun in theory. I want to try these in case cans but there are a lot of other things I probably would try first for $100. they do have that sleek look I am wanting for wearing at my desk though.

For the SQ I get with the Incase Sonic hp's, I'd recommend putting them at the TOP of your list. Really, the sound is better (IMO) than my Creative Aurvana Live's,...and THOSE are rebranded Denon cans (with the famous Foster drivers). Trust me on this, try them.

I'll compare later. But, the bass is kickazz on the Sonic's, and it has the one thing I DISLIKED about those VPulse IEM's we had, and that's major clarity! These are PERFECT for you IDvsEGO, and BruceBanner will luv 'em as well. They really are, at $99 or less, a great deal.

PS: even though they look different, the build is very similar to the AIAIAI TMA-1, and that's so much a huge plus. The TMA-1 has excellent build quality,...these are pretty much on par.

I gotta admit I'd try those Incase Sonics if I were in the market for closed cans at the moment. I like their looks a lot, particularly the black version with the green elements.

Maybe if my Beyer DT250's ever die...
