Default Sound quality dilema

hello everyone, I just got my nwz-z1060 from Japan, I love everything about it, except the bass, why isn't it as high as for example the E400 models?, I still listen with my E400 because of the amazing huge bass sound, I was expecting the Z series to be the same bass sound at least, is this because of the new S-Master crap?, I even put the clear bass at its highest yet still not as big as the E series!, any solution?

I did actually, like I said, I put the Clear Bass at its highest and the other EQs as my E series, the bass still sounds lower than my E series.

Return the player and stick to the E.

I don't know if this would be classified as a solution, but when I use larger headphones (such as the over-the-ear type) with my player the bass was enhanced over the ear clips I normally use. I dislike the bass enhancement with larger headphones so stay with the smaller ones.

It's true. I have both the X Series and the new Z series. I bought it as a successor, but the bass on the Z is way lower than the X's, though they both use the S-Master Amp, and have the same audio enhancing technologies. After using the X for over a year, the audio quality sounds more dull.

Is it possible that sony did not tweak the sound settings in the service menu like they did their other players?

Edit: and yes I know there is no access to the service menu on newer players yet.

^ It's either [Power + W. Control] or [Volume Up + W. Control] to get into engineer mode. I have not tried this.

[Power + Volume Up] to get into recovery mode when booting, but the only thing you can do on the stock recovery is a factory reset. I'm currently working to get CWM recovery on it.

^ Thanks for the info.
What is CWM Recovery and what does it do? I thought "cwm" meant some sort of ice peak (funnel, scoop).

CWM = ClockWork Mod
Clockwork Mod Recovery is a custom recovery ROM that replaces the stock one (that's the engineer mode). Its capabilities include flashing custom ROMs.

FlorianD - What was your finding on the comparision between the units? I was not sure if you were saying the X series or the Z series sounded dull?

I also have an X-series unit as well as a Z-series unit. To me, the Z-series sounds more full but at the same time sounds kinda dull compared to the X-series. The X-series has a more pronounced higher frequency range and the music is more engaging and fun.

You can always use the EQ and the DSEE functions.

Tried the EQ and even with the upper frequencies all the way up it does not have much effect. With the DSEE on or off sounds pretty much the same since I play mostly wav files. Sounds good but not as good as the X series. I might try a different android music player like poweramp or winamp and see if they have a more effective EQ.

...Why would you use WAV on a portable?

I already have everything ripped to wav format on my PC. I don't like the sound of the lossy formats and have just been too lazy to convert to another lossless format.

Oh. Let's just wait for an expert then.

No need for that, just link them to the first post in this thread http://anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=68675, it's good for educational purposes and opens peoples eyes to test for them self. Keep in mind that the thread is still a work in progress and should be done soon. That said, if one wants to use WAV, FLAC, etc on the go it's their prerogative.

BTW is it just me or does this topic just keep popping up more and more ...

What I'm getting is less bass, less pronounced higher frequency and more full. So would you say the Z series has a better midrange than x series?

I'm debating whether or not to get a Z series. Can you described the differences between it and other good sounding players (the x series, etc.) a little more specificly?
