Default sansa clip zip doesnt show up on PC

Hi! Yesterday I had some problem with my rockboxed clip zip which resulted in formatting the zip.

Now all I get is device is not recognized/unkown device. I've tried forcing MSC, doesnt work.

Show connected > transferring 1second > then back to showing connected. Though seems like it doesnt charge up when it is connected.

Could something be wrong with the cable?

Any other suggestion?

OF? Meaning i should start the zip then plug in? That's what im doing.

If I put cable in with zip off. It just shows rockbox "loading firmwire, file not found"

If I start it with sansa firmwire it shows connected > transfering for 1-2s > connected. And then unrecognized device/unkown device. Also seems it doesnt charge the player either

Will the device still boot to the OF (original firmware) if you hold down the << key while booting? I'm on my way out the door, someone else will run with help I'm sure. When you formatted your clip it probably removed the .rockbox folder, if you put the latest build back in it should fix your problem.

Edit: back now for 45min's. If you can boot to the OF (per directions above), go to settings/system settings/USB mode/set it to USB mode, now try connecting. Once connected you can add rb file back onto the root or if you don't want rb, you'll have to load the latest version of the OF as the version that is currently on your device is patched but doesn't have the .rockbox folder. Now disconnect device and allow firmware update. Let us know the results.

Well, that's what i have been doing, starting with <<< and power button to get into OF. Then i've tried both auto/MSC/MTN but I still get unrecognized device.

It starts with showing "connected, then transferring for 1-2s then back to just connected."

So annoying!

Ok, so that means you probably need to reinstall the driver into your pc

forell:

How did you format the player? If you haven't formatted it in the OF try that.

For the OF it comes on WMP, IIRC all you need to do is install or re-install WMP version 10 or higher and it should automatically install the driver for the OF. Or and I'm not sure about this second thing but I was under the impression that if you reinstall rockbox that should come with it's own USB driver (someone please correct me if I'm wrong).

You need to try a different cable, just to make sure it's not the cable.

Edit: I've had a clip included cable go bad and I really take care of my cables

Ok, but I'm sure if you formatted you'll be missing the .rockbox folder so you won't be able to boot to rb. If you can get it connected and recognized the fix should be easy.

Not sure if you tried booting to OF and leave it on a few seconds, then use reset (hold power button down for 20 seconds). After that, try booting to OF again, making sure it's on MSC connect in the settings and then try connecting to a different USB port on pc. I'm running out of ideas but it's worth a try.

Yes, if you don't have the receipt and bought online (I bought one at amazon and they save receipts for you in your account), call sandisk and request RMA. They'll put you thru some paces like you've tried and then if it won't work they'll approve the RMA. ps don't say about rb, just in case.

Edit: also check this thread later, there's bound to be something I didn't think of and one of the other guys might come up with other ideas.

Edit 2: back with some other thoughts -
Did you try forcing MSC mode like this:
1. Turn device OFF.
2. Press and hold the center select button while connecting the device to the PC.

If you check device manager and see a yellow exclamation point (!) next to port your device is connect:
Refresh the drivers
1. Right-click the entry with the error mark, select Uninstall.
2. On the top menu, click Action then select Scan for hardware changes.

If I do your first suggestion i just end up in rockbox = loading firmwire, file not found > plug USB cable. Nothing happens

Tried you other suggestion aswell. It does pop up with yellow eclamation point. But no further success after trying uninstall, etc..

Think i'll order a new sansa clip+ (not fu**ing zip).....

If you do have that yellow exclamation point (!), then I was right earlier in the post where I said it's a driver issue. Did you try installing WMP 11 or higher first (that has the correct driver)? But I wouldn't allow WMP to select media player of choice or allow it to load your music, which you can opt out during the install. Once you've done that if the driver doesn't automatically update to that port, you'll have to do a manual install by allowing it to search for the driver on your pc. If you don't know how to do this, I'm sure that SanDisk support will walk you thru it before they approve an RMA.
