I just purchased a Toshiba Thrive tablet. I like all the aspects of the Thrive, but the audio is weak. This has been a complaint to Toshiba, but is especially worrisome to me. I want to use my tablet for traveling -- both air and auto (which have a lot of background noise). I do a lot of reading and watching recorded TV shows. I am 65 and have a mild hearing loss from too much loud music in the 60's. I had some difficulty with my previous laptop and I am concerned about how to resolve this problem in my Thrive (I have 30 days to return it if I am not satisfied).
I presently have a set of Bose AE2 headphones. I emailed JDSLabs and they said that the cMoy BB amplifier would help, but I saw in this forum that the amplifier might not be the solution, the headphones might be the problem. My question: Is there a solution? Which is the best way to go? Return the Thrive (my least favorite option), better headphones, or an amplifier. Any recommendations are welcome. A good list of options or suggestions will give me something to research. Thanks, Steve |

It's Android, so download PowerAMP from the Play Market (Android Marketplace) and see if it helps you out.

If you're just looking for more volume, check out sensitivity specs. (Although Bose apparently doesn't have them for that model). You'll probably be able to find something that's much more efficient, if all you're looking for is higher volume level.

Logitech sells a nifty-seeming tablet speaker amplifier, a tube-type design that sits on the top of the tablet--you might want to check it out.

OK, I downloaded the PowerAmp app, but I cannot get it to work properly. I get sound from the PowerAmp app, but no video. When I play the clip through the media player, I cannot adjust with the PowerAmp. Any suggestions on wht I am doing wrong?

PowerAMP doesn't do video, only audio.
