Default Sony eSupport has released the v1.2 firmware executable

For those of you who did not receive this update OTA on your Z, you can now download the exe file and run it on your PC. I am outside right now so I downloaded it directly onto my Z. Can't run it, though. Funny I'm still not getting the update OTA.

FACT: Doesn't work on current Canadian Z's, at least not those sold in my local Sony Style.
Tried the executable on both my rooted Z and a fresh Z. Computer says "connect the device to update the software" even if the device is actually connected.
This happened on both my computer (XP SP3) and the VAIO at my local Sony Style (Windows 7, version unclear). Tried all USB ports.

I have a Canadian version and have had the same problem. Sony technicians were not aware of any problems and could not resolve it. Have tried 3 computers running Windows 7 and XP to no avail. Using check for update on the device said no update was available. I hope Sony does not go the way of Microsoft and the Zune HD. I believe the check for updates option on the device is for Android updates only.

This is now not an isolated case. This is a good thing.
What happened to the Zune HD anyway? It got pulled from the shelves quite rapidly...

Microsoft stopped supporting the Zune HD and decided to move it to the Windows 7 phone instead. I guess some people really wanted a phone with their music player so that the battery would run down faster. Seems like a step backwards to me. How much music could one copy to their phone anyway? We should start a thread of the shortcomings of the new Walkman Z. Like maybe smart play lists, larger capacity for all those high quality files, a docking station with remote and how about some skins and protectors?

All those hardware peripherals (and much more) are available.
In Japan.
Only.

Y'see, that's what Sony does. It always reserves the best to themselves, such as the perl-white limited edition Z1070/W and the Yoshida Porter case that goes with it.

Go ahead and throw a thread. I have never used playlists on any of my DAPs. Well, the Z has that "SensMe" function, which takes like 10 hours to analyze your entire library.
Also I don't listen to lossless (what's the point) so capacity isn't a problem for me. Though clearly it is a serious deal-breaker for some.

Geez I really hope Sony doesn't kill off this Z early on, with the release of phones like the LT26i and such.
The X series was really short-lived here in Quebec. Two weeks?

I phoned Sony Support (877-899-7669) and they suggested that I send it in to have the update installed. I think everyone should phone them and let them know that it affects all units and not just mine. Maybe then they will "fix" the update.

Were any of you guys able to register your Z on the Sony product support site? I entered "Z1050" and it told me that it is not a valid model number. I also tried: "NWZZ1050", "NWZ1050", "NWZZ1050R" and "NWZZ1000". All of them were considered Invalid.

I recall receiving the shipping email from SONY-Store Canada which mentioned that it is auto registered having been purchased thru their website. I also tried the manual method, and could not find NW-Z1060.

Alright, I'm in the process of E-mailing these people to see whether I can get an answer. To date it seems like they're going through a prepared script.

EDIT: "Your problem is beyond our knowledge" :facebrick:

Was on-chat with Kristian - (C3HU) from SONY Canada Customer Service for 1 hr today. Used their screen-sharing to show the issue. Ended with SONY saying that they are (still) not aware that there is a problem with the file, and it was left for me to contact Tech Support @ 1-800-222-7669 (239-769-7547). Was quoted issue #130426397.

In otherwords a 1hr of uselessness.

I have no time (at the moment) to follow this up with SONY...

I went through the same thing but for THREE hours after the LogMeIn App dropped twice and then having to start over again. Finally got the same response as you, so I did contact "Tech Support" and they suggested I "send it in" to have the update installed. I am damn sure that they did not take note of the problem or try to escalate it so that it may be resolved. I'm sure they don't think that there is a problem with the update at all. We can only flood them with complaints until they they finally see that there may be a problem. The problem is their "Tech Support" has no real knowledge of the device (cutbacks) and just go through the motions until they can dump this customer and go on to the next poor soul. As they say, you hire a bunch of people and pay them peanuts and you get monkeys.
I see another 10,000 workers (probably the skilled ones) are to be dumped, so don't expect things to improve. It's all marketing and surveys these days and no real technical people anymore.

I agree,

Sony's tech support are a bunch of a-holes who don't know anything about the device. I actually remember screaming at a tech person about my cell standby issue, and he kept telling me to go into settings to adjust the screen stanby time (which was not what I was talking about). This went on for an hour as well, he kept putting me on hold to look up the Z's specs and then would tell me to do the exact same thing once he got me off of hold over and over again, like he was saying someting new every time! That is the main reason I returned the device. They don't know s#!t. I went to Sony Style store in NYC, where there were a good 7 customer service reps standing around asking people if they needed "help." As soon as I said I had a technical problem, they told me to wait while they found someone who could help. The only "tech" person there had 9 people waiting for him to answer their questions. So when it was my turn, he tried to help me, but just took note of what I was talking about and sent it to Sony Technical Support. Go Figure!

I have decided to stop caring and just listen to the music. Build 1.00.0002 works fine enough.
