My Hippo Pearls and HD201 died, need help with a replacement

Hi guys,

As the title states, both my earphones and headphones are "kaput" and it's not such bad timing since I wanted to get something new. But I haven't been following the audio scene lately, so I'm not aware of the new must-have-best-bang-for-your-buck thingy. That's where I thought you guys could help.

Here are my criterias:
Price: 50euros -->$50 Max
Design: In ear
I like listening to rock, metal and electro in no particular order.
I'll be using a Sansa Clip+ and my LG Optimus Black (most of the time). Which brings me to my next point, it would be really nice if it had a microphone feature with play/pause/fstfwd...

The Meelectronics m9p caught my eye, but after reading a few reviews the consensus was that the mids were a bit disappointing. Anybody who listens to rock feels the same way? Cuz I do like a bit of r'n'r.
Oh and I'm not an audio quality freak. When I moved from CX300s to Hippo Pearls I noticed a difference but not enough to justify the price difference, but I know that ipod earphones are just as good as a pair of tin cans.

Ok, now your spewing bullshit. The iPod/iPhone all sound great, and the crappy earbuds are just the floatsom they give with their devices. The only complaint most owners have is the lack of a custom eq and their walled garden monoculture. Otherwise, there's NOTHING wrong in owning one if it's the right, educated, choice for a person.

Now, please don't start spewing baseless Apple hate here on ABi. We have TONS of locked threads on that kind of crap, and members have been banned by being a hater for NO REASON except being a fool.

And, FYI, a few mods & members on ABi own iPhones/iPods/iPads,...I'm one of the members.

On topic: the meelectronics m6 and m9 are not the best sounding, as mine sit in a drawer collecting dust. I'd much rather suggest something from XePort,... Take a look at their website and see what catches your eye - the sq for the price is pretty good.

Basically, all I want is in-ear earphones with cx300 or higher SQ with a mic for under $50. Anyone have any suggestions?

there aren't many good choices with a mic. meelectronics, klipsch, and maximo all have decent offerings. Xears used to. I have a set of N3i I would sell you if you were interested. Sound great, I just don't like the J cord. I couldn't tell you if the mic remotes work with a non-apple product on any of those though. Well, I guess I could on the N3i since I have it...I am just lazy. that is the other reason people don't bother with them much.
