Input Noise from Motherboard

I want to measure the noise of a few music players I have around the house, but the noise from the input of my motherboard is too loud, and even after plugging a player in at full volume, there is no difference in noise. Is there any way to reduce the noise with the motherboard I have, or do I have to buy a separate sound card (and if so, any recommendations)?

Ok, thanks, and I do have the 6-pin 1394 port. I will look into it. I hope it works, because after searching for a long time, I found a good program, but then this stopped me.

I second the AF2 for audio input and output. Its a great unit.
