Default Replacement for Hippo VB?

Well lately I've been considering upgrading my pair of VB(s). Not because I don't think it sound good enough.

I love the how the VB sounds. The bass is just awesome. And clarity is good enough imo. But the durability of the VB are not that good, I've broke my pair of VB(s) twice.

Anyway, I'm looking something that'd sound like VB(s) but that are better than VB in bass, clarity and durability and of course no hiss.

And my budget will be MAX 300

Keep in mind that my review was about the first generation Atrios. The new ones have different drivers, and supposedly better treble and clarity.

Since you own both the atrios and the VBs. How are they compared to Hippo VB?

Radius is also known for making bass monsters especially the DDM.

price isn't your issue. There just aren't clear cut upgrades at some point, its just preferences. The returns you get above $100 are minimal compared to the differences in a $40 and $100 set. Its mostly about build quality and sound signatures, not really sound quality. There are lots of bass oriented IEMs out there at lots of higher price points. Honestly, a lot of the current bass oriented IEMs at the same price point are "better" or at least as good. From what I have read the VB isnt head and shoulders above like it used to be but the legend continues. I had a VB and a fishcer audio eterna and I liked the eterna better. The current Fischer consonance sounds like it would be better for me too, and its like $60.

Some higher priced bass oriented IEMS to consider...

atrio MG7
monster gold or copper
Radius DDM
Senn IE8
JVC fx500/fx700

I am ashamed to admit I bought the Miles Davis Tribute when was Monster were closing them out for $150 last week. Never thought I would by a Monster product, but I decided at that price the risk was minimal with the resell value of Monster products being pretty high because of their popularity.

They are defiantly the most bass heavy IEM I have heard. That is not saying too much though since the only other $100+ dynamic I have heard is the Shure SE215 which failed to impressive me. I am fairly impressed with the Tributes though. I was ready to give up on dynamics, but they have renewed my interest. They sound a little slow compared to BA, but they have enough detail to not to leave me wanting like the other dynamics I have owned. Biggest issue I see it build quality. For a company that makes overpriced cables I would expect the cable to be a little more impressive. Not the worst I have seen, similar to the Klipsch S4 cable.

All in all though I am happy with them for now. Probably will only keep them until I find a something better though since I am not a basshead and these things surely are. I think you could safely add them to your list of bass heavy IEM. I would not pay $300+ for them, but at the $150 closeout price they are not too bad.

$350 on Amazon. $350/$500, either way not worth it--just like a Monster product.
