Sony Walkman NWZ-S765 problem

My walkman is OK with headphones and earplugs, but when I play through my amp or in the Aux socket in my car with mini-jacks there's terrible interference. I've tried 4 different mini-jack leads, all with the same result. I have an ipod as well and that works fine with any mini-jack.
Do you think the mini-jack socket in the Sony could be dodgy? (I bought it 2 days ago)
