Creative Zen Style M100 - Problem Changing Firmware

So I got one of these for Christmas and it seems fine for what I need but the max volume is very low. I want to try replacing the EU firmware (v1.00.16e) with the US equivalent (v1.00.16) to see if that bypasses any volume limiter.

The problem I have is that when I run ZENFWUpdater_M100_v1.00.16.exe it tells me that the firmware has been upgraded, but inspecting the firmware information on the player it still reads v1.00.16e. Do I need to remove or downgrade the original firmware before upgrading to US firmware? And if so, how do I do that?

I've got the same problem.The player after upgrade still reads the same v1.00.16e firmware.
Could anyone help, please ?
