I want to buy some earphones for my Sony X series Walkman.
Which out of these two would you recommend? They're both around the same price. |

They have different sound signatures and use different technologies. The IE6 is a dynamic driver IEM with the trademark Sennheiser 'veiled' sound signature. The Shure 215 is a balanced armature design that has pretty decent bass but is still more of a clarity-focused IEM. In other words, the IE6 will give you a more euphonic, laid-back and dynamic experience, whereas the Shure will let you pick our minute details in the sound, while sounding a little cold, harsh and lifeless (at least compared to the Sennheiser). Each IEM is pretty good at their intended sound signature but I am not sure if they are a particularly good bargain. It might be a good idea to look at some alternatives from other companies that deliver a similar sound signature for a smaller price.

Thanks for the info. Do you have any recommendations from other brands?

You'll get more suggestions if you add the info listed here. It's difficult to suggest good phones for you because not only do we only have a rough price range to go off of on those phones you asked about, but they are two distinct sounding ones.

I got the IE6. They're too bass heavy!
I prefer the ones that came with the player, they give a much clearer sound. |

Uh oh. I see a lapse back into mediocrity approaching. What sort of music do you listen to?

The shure se215 is decent but i find them really bassy and rather muddy.

First off, the se215's have dynamic drivers, not balanced armatures. Even if it supports the design of the higher ends shure IEM, there are different in technology. They are pretty good for bass. If it sounds muddy, it may be the case of a wrong fit. Fitting the sleeves properly is essential for them to sound good
