I want a small and light cheap portable amp with decent sound quality that works decently with 300 ohm headphones and has decent battery life. I also want the ability to charge while listening.
I guess I am asking for too much, however I am curious about what would come closest to what I want. This may sound like a stupid question, but what happens if two amps are put in series? |

What about the d10 portable amp and you get a DAC with it. Not sure about two amps in series question but isn't that the way a preamp and amp work together. BTW I do use my Pico/DAC to connect to my WA6, guess it acts like a preamp and it works much better than just going from my onboard sound card to the WA6.

How cheap? Well the cheapest, smallest and lightest one that is decent is Fiio E6 ($25 on Amazon), and it supports 300ohm.

I was just looking at the Fiio E10. It looks like it doesn't have a line in. I looks like it only accepts usb in. i looked at several photos of it, and none show a line in. Strange.
The Fiio E6 doesn't have enough muscle to do a good job with 300 ohm headphones. The E6 also only gets 10 hours of battery life. I want more than that if possible. The Fiio E11 has more power, however no charging while playing, and battery life isn't longer than on the E6(unless I get spare batteries and do battery swapping). I guess I could get by with not so long battery life if it plays well while charging(so I can use a usb battery pack when needed). The Fiio E7 is large and heavy. What Fiio needs to do is to make an upgrade of the E11 that allows charging while playing, and perhaps also longer battery life. Why do portable headphone amps only have a bass boost? I know bass takes more power then treble, however if a treble boost is needed it would be nice to be able to do it within the amp. |

There was a package deal for the E11 on Amazon before that bundles a spare battery in with it for no extra charge.....don't know if it is still there though.

I've used them before and didn't have any issues with my order. Plus, they're allowing users who purchased the E11 before July from them to order the accessory pack and they'll refund your $5.00 after your purchase. The accessory pack (spare battery + charger) runs about $10.00. Edit: I also wanted to mention that the Micca Store is local (within 10 miles of where I work) - but, sadly, they only do mail orders due to not having a store front. I'd love to be able to head into a shop and buy some FiiO gear without having to wait 2 - 3 days on shipping. |
