Downloaded music not recognized

8GB Clip Zip. Ubuntu 11.04. Dragged and dropped music files from computer music folder into music folder on Clip Zip. Removed Clip Zip from USB connection. New music on CZ does not appear but music that shipped with the CZ does appear. Music that shipped with the CZ no longer appears on the computer when the CZ is hooked to the computer through the USB connection. The only music the CZ plays is the music included with the new CZ. Procedure to make the CZ recognize the new music? Thank you all for your help in getting me this far!

This appears to be the standard USB setting problem. You have left the player on Autodetect, which defaults to MTP on PCs and MSC on Ubuntu.

Go into the player and change the USB setting to MSC. You should find your music.

Thank you for your quick reply. The USB is set to MSC and was when the music was downloaded.

Presumably these are mp3 files. Are you looking for them in database view or folder view or Play All?

I don't own a Clip Zip (yet) or have access to Ubuntu. I have no idea.

FreeZ5 is right, I have the Zip but can’t recall what mode the included files came on as I formatted the player to delete everything first, then rockboxed it and loaded all my tunes after switching it to MSC. It’s possible you have some files in one mode and other files in the other mode which would keep you from seeing all of them. Since you use Ubuntu I would recommend taking everything off the player, disconnect player and switch to MSC and then reload everything in MSC mode. I have seen where these players default back to auto select after firmware upgrades and switching between computers. Another thing you should check is you ID3 tags.

I was pretty sure that they were in MTP mode on the Fuze and Clip+, but there's no way for me to check any more. Maybe I'll learn if I get a Clip Zip for Xmas.

The original files were under MTP mode (as with the earlier players as well).
