So if iriver is no more in the MP3 world, what is worth looking forward to?
Don't worry, just because everybody needs to get an outlet for their MP3 player angst and can't discern between 'low mainstream popularity' and 'bad quality' doesn't mean iriver is dead in the slightest.

iriver have some great offerings including the iriver Tab (with Android), the iriver E300 and S100 (both directly comparable to the Cowon i10) and the iriver U100, which has both Wi-Fi and specs to rival the J3:

The U100 is rated at 50 hours' battery life for audio, 11 hours' for video.

Don't lose sight of iriver just because some pretentious dude on a forum tries to tell you what to think. Look at the facts instead of the opinion - if you don't, you might as well just get an iPod Touch already and be over with it.

^That isn't acceptable here. You need to find a way to express that you disagree with an opinion without negatively characterizing the person that expresses the opinion.

Expressing your thoughts on an opinion encourages healthy debate. Making it personal starts flame wars.

BTW, iRiver is for all intents and purposes dead in the US. Their last offering flopped so hard here there's no longer a major distributor that carries them. Some of the models can still be purchased directly from their website or eBay here but that's it.

Edit:
I have done more research and found there are iRiver product available on Amazon and possibly other online vendors. I still haven't located them as available at any major B&M in the US. I'll keep looking and update if I find anything.

Poor research on my part. Sorry

Thank you for stating the FACTS for us here in the USA skip, as well as stating the stance on personal attacks that will MOST DEFINATELY start a flame war.

For now, I'll mostly let this pass - considering it came from a well respected Cowon rep,...

Thanks man! I've made up my mind to pull the triger on a iRiver K1 Smart HD. I can't help being a fan boy, but iriver has always made great players and I plan to stick with em'. Heck, every one has been braging about samsung and sansa forever and I have not seen any reason to be impressed with them at all. Sure, they have made some nice players, but nothing that I would go buy and place on a alter to worship like it's made out to be. Doesn't mean they aren't quality players though.

Indeed, all the hype I see for iriver players revolves around the old H-series hard drive players, which date back many years....they still have their diehard fans after all this time. Of course, when I ask, "If they were so awesome why were they discontinued?", nobody has an answer...lol.

*******
Let me clear up a mis-statement.

I've found you can still get some iRiver products from Amazon in the US as well from eBay and the iRiver site. I'm editing my post to reflect that. My mistake, I should have searched more extensively before I posted.
*******

There may be other sources as well but I haven't seen a iRiver DAP in a B&M in a couple of years. When the E100 tanked at Wally World it seemed to kill any US popularity. The price was decent and the feature set was impressive so I gave one a shot.

I had serious UI problems and hardware with the one I had. I tried to help a couple of others that had them at the same time get them working reliably. I couldn't get any of the three to work properly. The UI was glitchy and slow and they would freeze up and refuse to respond randomly. Bleh. The lack of library integration for the external memory was another downside.

The worst part was that it actually sounded different from other players. The difference was audible against a V1 Sansa E250 and that never won any prizes for SQ. A V2 Sansa Clip was clearly better to my ears in volume matched listening. Turning on the SRS WOW effects just made things worse. They all went back.

I've have had too many DAPs both good and bad to believe in brand loyalty. Any maker is capable of turning out a stinker. Or a gem. If we close our minds to that we may miss if a maker has a turn around.

OriginalGusBus says they're getting a iRiver K1 Smart HD. If they're nice enough to share their opinion of it's capabilities once they have one that would be great. Sharing information about the products we have is how we all gather information about our next possible purchase. It would be nice to know if iRiver is on the upswing or not.

"Creative Sux!!!" covers too much ground in my opinion but if that's someones experience they're free to post that here. Anyone that disagrees with that opinion, let's emphasize opinion, is free to disagree. They need to express their disagreement without making it personal but as long as they do that they should make their opinion known.

In that vein let's kill the "worship/fanboi" talk. We all profit from the type of debate that arises from dealing with the content of a post, not focusing on who posted.

iRiver is fading away into irrelevance in the western market, nothing to be ashamed about, they do well in their own country I take it? Still no reason to try and stir up some interest in them for no reason. All that does is remind us about how little they've been doing lately.

Like a cranky old Creative fanboi: Wheres my Touch screen Clix3 Damnit!?

Oh, anyone remember that iriver Phone that was suposed to come out? Oh those were the days, kind of hard to believe that Meizu actually pulled that one off so well.

Hopefully there will be new Android PMPs being released sometime this year and the following years. It would be cool if Samsung set a new standard and other manufacturers tried to copy off of the Galaxy line, that would be great.

I'm a Sony fanboi, and all they do is disappoint me. I'll NEVER get a 64gb Walkman here in the USA. But, I'll never tell anyone Sony is the answer to everything. They can still KMA!!!

Yeah, I'm just waiting for the next big player. Something that will blow ipod touch out of the water and leave the Cowon J3, Sansa Clip and SGP high and dry(Praying it will be the Z2). I doubt that it will happen at this point, but one can still dream, right?
